I don't have speakers for my laptop, I use the digital audio out on the airport express to my home stereo, works very well.

They need to be portable...it's for a graduation party on Sunday. The DJ backed out, so they asked me if I could play music. Figured I'd rip my iPod to my laptop and get some speakers.
"Portable" is a relative term and for your purposes, the Klipschs are easy enough to move. To fill the room for a party you will need something pretty substantial. Read the review of the Klipschs and you should be convinced that they're what you need. Plus, you will enjoy the hell out of them when you're done doing your Dj thang.

I have these by Klipsch . Really good 5.1 channel sound. Enough to shake the hood.

These are wonderful. I have one set of these connected to my desktop and about to order another one for the living room that will be fired wirelessly. Price now? About $100.00. http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=103

(I got them a few years ago for $80 on clearance .) Since you need them quickly, eBay probably won't help you and you can get these at most major tech stores.

I agree! I have the 5.1 version of those - the Z-5500. They are an excellent line of computer speakers.

The satellites on the Klipsch set may be better, but their 2.1 ProMedia system only uses a 6.5" subwoofer. Sure it's high excursion and all, but there's nothing like an 8" or 10" sub instead!

The Logitech 2.1 set uses an 8" sub in contrast. It's not just about the driver's frequency response. An 8" simply reproduces bass better in my opinion.
