2.0T A4 also fit into that budget.

I know you already have the X5, but the new generation Nissan Xterra has gotten really great reviews in both Motor Trend and Car & Driver. You can get a base model Xterra (but still has the 4.0L 6-cylinder 270HP engine) for less than $25K.
This new car is really for my mother. She doesn't feel comfy driving anything too big. So the Xterra is out of the question. My cousin actually has one and it's a great SUV for the money...

Believe me; that was the first thing that came up but she doesn't want a pre-owned car.

Yeah she doesn't want any American Car/Truck. Not even German; basically a Japaness auto due to its reliability.

The 2.0T is not AWD. Which is a requirment. The quattro version is in the low $30k's.

WRX is what I told her to get; but she doesn't want the Turbo version because of the hood scoop. For $25k that car is perfect. The problem is that for only a few thousand more she could get the STI. But then again for a few thousand less she could get the non turbo 2.2L.

Thanks for everyones input. Please keep them coming. She is planning on getting a new car this Memorial Day holiday weekend. I just want her to drive something else before she sets her heart on her 4th Subaru. Thanks everyone...

Under $25K and must be Japanese and AWD. I guess a Carrera 4 is out of the question...

Not a whole lotta choices here. Send us a pix of your mom's 4th Suby. Even though it will probably get your mom's decision by default, Subaru is cranking out some very nice cars these days and the respect they are getting is earned.

it's funny how people still think that american cars are unreliable...

i'm sure there are some real lemons out there, no doubt, but every manufacturer has 'em. A friend has had 2 suby's and both have sucked for reliability,....

Does the KIA Sorrento come in a 4WD? I know, I know, JD Powers, but it's what, $23,000?

You can get a Grand Cherokee for under $20k; but it's too big. I think she's going with another Subaru. I'm hoping I can get her to get the STI; but she told me the hood scoop and rear spoiler is ugly. And she might not be able to over it.
