Rude message boards

I appreciate X5World more and more each day. I know that BF and RF people can be rather rude, but thought it was just those two. Seems it applies to a VW site also.

My father has an '04 Toureg with 50K miles on it. He really hasn't had any of the problems that I hear plague the Toureg. He wanted to buy it at lease end (July). Both my brother and I are trying to talk him out of it. He has this problem getting a new car (Accella, hold on to your chair) My dad loves the Toureg.

Anyway, my brother goes on a VW site and asks about what type of problems plague the Toureg, explaining the decision whether to purchase and also what the deal is on the '07. Is it a face lift, or complete overhaul.

THE MODERATOR, replies and bites his head off with the do a search routine (which he did but only found 3 posts) and then locks the thread.

Anyone here know anything about the '07 Toureg

Those boards might as well close new posting/memberships if that's how they want to operate

I have my helmet on and egg-crate foam on the ceiling...

I had one of the first Tou-a-regs off the boat...my bad.

If your father got a good one and really likes it, then maybe he can cut a deal with the buyout...as it is an '04 the dealer may want it gone as those had the bad rap...your dad may want to extend the warranty and drive the wheels off it. I know nothing about the 2007.

Would he like a spare rear headrest in mint condition?--dark grey.

He actually got one of the first ones off the line also. No issues though. He does a lot of miles and I think that he should get while the getting is good. Even the dealer said he should get out of it. He has been lucky so far.

What's with the headrest? Funny story behind that I presume.

Actually VW shipped a lower profile center headrest for the rear seat because rear visibility was a problem. One day a smaller center headrest just showed up via UPS. No explanation or anything.

Actually, I can make some sense of the response from the moderator.

I was considering the Touareg as well. My final decision came down to the X5 and the Touareg and I just ordered my X5 last month. I did a lot of reading over at the Touareg forum, and the main thing that turned my off from that car was all the talk of problems.

While X5 World discussions are mostly about mods you can do to your X5, which factory options to get, and performance of the X5, I found that 50% of the discussion at the Touareg forum was about various problems that people had with their cars, and the problems they had getting them fixed, i.e. multiple trips to the dealer, service bulletins, etc. There were even some threads on lemon law cases where people were trying to get their money back because of so many problems.

So considering the volume of threads on the various problems the car has, I can see why the moderator responded that way. It would be like if someone posted a thread on X5World saying "anyone heard of the IceLink plus Ipod controller??".

I had an 04 Touareg V8 and really had few issues but in viewing the Touareg Forum with 50,000 miles I thought it was time to let go. VW does not have free maintenance and with my warranty issues they wanted me to pay for a rental! Since this dealer had bought back my Audi Allroad as a lemon they were willing to give me free loaners though.

He did a search, did not find what he was looking for. They should lock the thread? Come on, how long did it take you to have a thread locked? More than 1 post.

Thanks Fiona - I'll check it out, not sure which site it was, I'll ask. Don't know what my brother was looking for. I guess more info on exactly what type of issues were common with the '04 and what the '07 is all about.
