Who's going to win the 2006 US Open?

From what I understand, Tiger is a 4-1 favorite. It's been 9 weeks since he's last played because of the death of his father and fittingly enough, the tournament ends on Father's Day. But Mickelson is brought his game to the level where he is Tiger's equal off the tee and to the green and his excellent short game offsets Tiger's putting. Vijay, as always, is a marvel of consistency. With a win under his belt last week at the Barclay's Open, he's bringing his A game to the Open. And of course there are the other contenders, any one of which can break out and win the tourney.

I'm excited about the tournament and yes, I'm rooting for Tiger.

Really a dart throw, but Tiger or chubbyPhil are the obvious early picks...
I was bored last eve, fighting off a horriblefookinsummerheadcold, flipping channels and watched the Golf Channel review, showing WF, hole by hole.

The interesting thing to me was the side by side comparo pics of the holes from 1997 to 2006: something like 18,000 (thousand!) trees have been removed from the course, espc. ones squeezing the std landing area on fairways and those overhanging the greens. I realize it's still considered a killer tough course, but the "look" was remarkable diff. from '97 to '06, following the "re-do"; not a tree hugger issue, but it sure "looks" diff and could be a course "anywhere in America" to the casual TV viewer, as opposed to the typical "old established Northeast" type course that I've seen.

Jes' an observation on the very diff "look"...
I couldn't break 120 from the TIPS, I suspect, lol!

18,000 trees removed? I'm surprised the tree-huggers aren't demonstrating. BTW - If there was 1 tree on the course, it would find a way to get in front of my ball.

There's a big lead time for the site selection of the Open. Merion was just selected for the 2013 Open! That is a friggin' long time from now. By then, maybe the girls will be teeing it up with the boys. A 23 year old Michelle Wie paired up with a 37 year old Tiger Wood.

Yikes - back to back 76's for Tiger. I've never seen him look so discouraged. He was obviously in a big funk over his father's passing but also because he had not played. I certainly hope he can move forwards quickly. If anyone can - he can.

It's looking good for Mickelson at -2 but Vijay is lurking behind at -5. And here's a shocker - also sitting at -5 is David Duval with a 68 today (tied for 14th). I'd love to see him return to form.

Anyone on the first two pages, eg Vijah north, can win it.

Good to see a tourn. that isn't going to be 23 under.

Duval's interview in this month's Golf Digest is very good...
a sentimental fave.

Very hard to predict on Fri. eve.

It is an insidious game.

I stand corrected: it was 1,800...I added a zero in my
slipping into old age situ.

I actually "played" WF back in the mid-80s when I
chased it 1-2 times per year. A mkt mgr that worked for
me got us on the East Course, (for non-members), via
his father, whom was a med. big shot in the trucking biz.

I played "at" most of the holes, but generally just rode,
following our caddy.

I remember that course as being medieval looking as it
was so "dark" with all the giant old oaks. While the
Open course is the "other" course, the tree "shave job"
gives it a much diff. look.

Wonder what my current 13.2 HDCP Index would do for me there,
