I have the Linksys, as well. It came very highly recommended. I had some issues with it at first and called their Tech Support. Very friendly and helpful...fixed the problem within minutes (I needed to download some upgrade for it). I would definitely get another one.

On my second Linksys router, this one is a WRT54G. The first one was not a G, but it worked great for four years. I avoided the S intentionally, didn't need it and I think the standard model is more robust. I had a D-Link four years ago, but couldn't make it work with a Toshiba laptop with built-in wi-fi and the dealer who sold me both recommended that he swap it for a Linksys, which he did at no charge.

All my wireless cards are Linksys, only one failure in four years.

I do find that while the wizards work fine, there are often more recent versions of drivers on the Linksys site. Easy to download, and a required step in installation IMO.

Good point on security and changing the SSID. Make sure you change the ADMIN password as well, and hide the SSID after you change it.

Unless you're a programmer, there isn't that much reason to choose Linksys over a less expensive brand. Linksys, D-Link, Buffalo, US Robotics, Microsoft, Belkin, SMC - they are all pretty good brands.

Wireless G has been on the market for 3 years; all of the manufacturers have had the opportunity to refine their products and improve the User Interface. Phone support is all the same - if you call Linksys, D-Link, Buffalo, US Robotics, etc, you'll get overseas help.

Linksys is the forerunner because they are typically first to the market with leading technologies - but unfortunately there has been nothing new under the sun in router technology for a very long time. As a result, the playing field is the same for all the brands. So in today's world - Linksys is just another player whose name you are paying for, until some new development takes place. It's kind of like buying a Rolex watch. You wouldn't want to buy a $10,000 Rolex watch when $15 Armitron would do just fine, would you?

If I were to buy a wireless router today, I'd buy a Belkin Pre-N which I've seen for as low as $30 (router) and $70 (cards). It has a range of almost double that of wireless G and the price is plumetting.

I run D-Link Router + Linksys Access Point WAP54G Combination for my home office. None of which gave me any problem whatsoever.

As Asawa said Belkin is the cheapest and does the job fine. As long as they do the same job. Why pay more?

Linksys, D-Link they are all Tawainese companies only diference is Linksys is bought by Cisco and you are perhaps paying premium for that.
