Am I at fault? - Page 2

I had some lugnut holding up the line at Home Depot once (not being nice and letting people through) and when I politely asked if I could go through he gave me a bunch of crap, so I told the cashier to just ring him up, I'm paying for it.

He pulled his crap off the counter so fast and blew out of line without a peep...it freaked him out that I was going to buy his stuff. Problem solved.

I did make myself look bad and I did lose my cool. I accept the fact that that's were i went wrong and right now there's nothing I can do about it but learn to control my temper and respond better next time that happens.

But for me, In all honesty, I really tried to be as decent and diplomatic as possible. I couldn't just stand there while this guy makes a scene and makes fool of me at the same time. That's why i responded in such a manner.

Yeah, it is tough, but remember that your "fight or flight" instincts were kicked in and 6000 years ago the matter would've been settled with a few rocks and sticks...you could always go to the store and have a word with the manager, letting him know you regret what happened (not that you are blaming yourself) and let him know you enjoy shopping there.

Good for you... You were patient, however when pushed you fought back. Exactly how it should be.

No. Blowing up enough to scare other customers doesn't make you a winner. Neither does threatening to meet him outside. Sorry. Doesn't matter if it is Costco or Saks.

Just put it behind you and stop beating yourself up. Nothing you can do will change what happened of affect the outcome, learn from it and move on, we all drop the ball sometimes, your still an ok guy in my book

I would just turnaround, tell them to fuck off and get over it. You did nothing wrong.

Non of them replied because they were probably saw my anger building up and besides, the two customers who i let ahead thanked me. At this point i was infuriated and my blood started to boil. I tried to settle the arguement we were having in a civil manner but he kept on bitching like a M+O+F+O. He wouldn't stop. I've taken all that I could take so i blew my top and went ballistic on his ass making the scene much bigger. Costco employees started to surround me cause i was literally firing away cursing at that guy. I told the this guy, hey if you have a problem with me, deal with me you wuss. He couldn't prove his point about the customers being pissed off. Right after i blew it, proved my point, and answered him right back, he couldn't even look at me in the eye and answer back. He payed for stuff and immediately left. I told him to wait for me outside as i was ready to hunt his ass down. Did I win? I don't think so for blowing my top and loosing it and I may have frightened some other customers. But I knew i just couldn't take that s**t when I was the one being attacked and when someone calls attention to me with the intent of embarrassing me. Please advice. Hehehehe.

The way I responded was out of proportion and it's the first time I actually fired back in an incident like this. In almost all circumstances/altercations, I always try to resolve issues the proper way. Violence, aggression physical assault and the like are always my last resort. Besides, both parties tend to win when you approach conflict in a diplomatic and civil manner.

For example, one time at bank of america a guy approached me and made a scene. He accused me before i made it out of the banking center for cutting him in line when I'm sure I didn't (video cameras all over). Anyway, he started to raise his voice, cuss me out and use some racial slurs as he was making his accusation. He was white, I was asian (if that's important, not to me). Point being, I asked him if he could please calm down and tell me what just happen and if he could tell me what i did wrong. If i was really at fault and it is evident that i did something wrong against him or to upset him then I would apologize for my actions. I mean come on, public humiliation/embarrassment isn't necessary. Why do you have to call attention to someone's errors/mistakes with the intent to insult? What happened? I let him rant and cuss me out till his heart's content. He walked away ticked off and the loser cause he made a fool of myself. Besides, he couldn't really do anything else.

I just hope that that person learned from the way I responded that you get treated the way you treat others. Show some respect and courtesy, and you get the same in return. Love begets love, etc. all those sayings, although that may not always hold true. Emotions got the better of me, but my sole intent was to defend myself. He pushed the wrong buttons and I had to draw the line somewhere.

Anywho, I've moved on. I'm over this and the lesson has been learned. After all, when I think about it now, I do find that incident funny especially when I wanted to tell him that I would eat his children but didn't want to cause I'd end up in more trouble. And thanks for all the insights and responses everyone
