I am a Norton hater as well. I have been using Trend Micro's PC-cillin for over a year now, and I am extremely happy with it. My computer is as clean as a whistle, the updates are quite frequent, and the memory usage is minimal when compared to Norton or McAfee.

Trend is good stuff, we standardized on it for our win2k servers.

bottom line, Norton sucks (now). Try Bitdefender or Kaspersky - both great AV proggies.

+1 on Kaspersky. Also, Avast is a good AV with free home user license.

I know many of you are MS haters, but trust me, they have a good suite out now for AV/antispyware, etc. I beta-tested it on multiple machines for a year, and have abandoned Norton also.

Is it Norton that you get free with AOL? I used to have Symantic but when I got the new AOL it came with spy ware and automatically updating Anti-virus so it's been fine for me?

In my experience (I run a small computer sales & service company) Mcafee isn't worth the hard drive space it uses. I still use Norton, stay away from the versions with all the added crap, standard anti-virus version and have not had any complaints. I suggest using anything but Mcafee.
