Windows issue

I'm about to through my PC at work off the roof. Here's the situation...I recently received a new computer and moved the settings from my old PC to it.
When I open a page in IE, the progress bar at the bottom gets to approx. 99% and then sits there for about 30 seconds or so. Every page, every time.
When I go to open a document, same thing...double click on it and wait for almost 30 seconds before Word opens and then the document.
Right-click menu option to open or edit a file...same result.
It also seems to slow the system drastically at times.
Any thoughts?
3.0GHz
1GB RAM
XP Pro
80GB HD
All updates installed and even tried IE7. Firefox is working fine for the internet but I need the rest resolved for support issues.

What antivirus/antispyware are you running? This sounds like the AV is analyzing things very slowly before allowing them to open.

McAfee Enterprise edition....ran on the old PC too. I was going to try shutting it down for testing tomorrow.

Have you gone to "tools"/"internet options"/"privacy" and checked to make sure either the McAfee or cookie policy is too high or not allowing?

It might also be a memory problem. Did you "move" everything from your old PC to your new PC using a image file (i.e. Norton Ghost)? If so, some of your old program settings may have been copied over. If your drives are mapped differently or your directory structure is different, those settings may no longer work.

Double check your cache and temporary file settings. Look in the Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced. Take a look at your virtual memory cache file - is it the right size? Does it exceed the available space on your hard drive? Is it mapped to the right drive?

While in the Systems>Advanced tab, also look at Environmental Variables. Are the TEMP and TMP settings is pointing to valid file directories?

Do the same for IE - Tools-Internet Options>Temporary Internet Files>Settings. Is your IE Temp cache pointing to a valid directory? Also check to see if enough HD space is allocated for temporary internet files.

I have McAfee Enterprise Edition on my office computer - it does not have antispyware - at least not the version I have. I have only antivirus and firewall protection. Are you sure you don't have any spyware reading all your files before you do?

Does Event Viewer-> Application (and System) point to anything significant? Worth checking it out. Also close network connection (pull the internet cable) and see if the documents open fine.
