It can get complicated. When Muslims in the Tampa Bay region of Florida asked for a day off to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

BINGO, that was my whole point. I've taken my birthday off every year since I started working, I don't demand that people recognize it as a holiday..........................though they should

It is even not news-worthy. Someone must have written up the article to piss off folks like Statedog and Wanger. Why even sweating?
So you'd be down with removing Christmas as a national holiday? Seems like the same principle'd apply to non-Christian Americans.

Here are quotations from the framers of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and Bill of Rights regarding said topic:

We've gravitated too far from the original concepts and philosophies brought forth by these great men.

......Wagnerology......observed every October 5th...take the day off...have a beer and kick back.

Quicksilver, if you believe in a faith that isn't 'observed' in your workplace or school, why is there this push to have it observed when you yourself can take it off.....the idea is this push for observance by all for every religion.

from a school board perspective, it's more a pragmatic matter. if the majority of their kids are christian, then it makes little sense to have school on days when no one will be there.

if the majority of the kids in a district are muslim, fine, take muslim days.

the workplace is another thing entirely. we used to give good friday off, but the politically correct in our firm call it now a spring holiday.

as the company owner, i can give whatever days off i want. i can give Founder's Day (the celebration of when my ancestors, religious pilgrims, arrived in the New World in Georgia) if I want. I can give Congo Independence Day if I want. Conversely, I don't have to give anything either. In addition to our Holiday schedule, we provide people with vacation time, that they can use however they see fit.

i had some other things on my mind here, but they border on political statements, and politics, though it be very central to my daily life, seems to be generally frowned upon around these parts these days.

I don't see the issue, My company gives us 5 personal days a year, for example: I'm taking Friday and Monday off for Gay Pride weekend here in San Diego, do I expect the company to call that a holiday? Hell No, but they give us the freedom to do as we please and I think thats great, I think honestly if people have such an issue with the job and their religion, find another job.
