Hi everyone,
I've been sneaking around these pages for sometime now and enjoyed every minute of it.
Great webbsite!!

When I saw this thread I felt that I could not let it pass whitout a reply.

You guys in the US crack me up sometimes, I've read the article and laughed out loud.
Getting upset with breastfeeding?! Come on!? The most natural thing in the world...

If one doesn't like the sight of a baby feeding then why look? And it is not like the women go around and flashing thier breast to anyone to see?
At least not in Stockholm, Sweden but then again, maybe american women are different....
Just to sneak a peek of a breast when a woman is breastfeeding when You are passing by, that means that one has to stop walking, start starring and waiting the poor woman out.

Definitely Vitamin D whole milk in that titty

I'm cool with breast feeding in public, but let me tender two conditions to it being completely ok:

1)Don't wig out if people stare at you, cause you damn well know that in the US, you'd get less attention if you stole the "blue light" from KMart and wore that on your head. If a titty pops out, I'm gonna peep it till it gets put away.

2)Don't forget that what goes in, must come out. Don't feed the kid at takeoff on a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to DC and expect me to ignore the stank ass biohazard that is brewing in those diapers until we land. It is possible to change a diaper in an airplane bathroom!

If an onlooker or a passerby is disturbed by a woman discretely breastfeeding a baby in public, well, turn around and look the other way. Get a grip man!

I'm not sure I understand this. First you say it's Taboo to do in public but then you say the Magazine cover does not offend you in any way. In both cases it's a visual thing. What's the difference??

Look its fine if you want to have kids, personally I hate kids and don't want anything to do with them period. If you want to have kids more power to you BUT BUT BUT if you breastfeed in a restaurant your getting a dirty look from me every time and a "get the hell in the bathroom or where I can't see you look" from me to go with it, if you must, cover the breast and the baby or do it where noone can be offended, its not rocket science.

I'm going to start a feud here, but here goes:

What if I said the same thing about you and your husband kissing in a restaurant or a public place? You can claim it's natural and ok. If someone complains and says they get "grossed out" by seeing that, the ACLU, gay rights activists and so on would be all over it like white on rice. Why do we have to worry what everyone else thinks while others don't. You can't have it both ways.

I think discretion is appropriate in both situations. That said, my wife and I take our kids everywhere. If they needed to be fed (when they were breastfeeding), then she did so. Sometimes that needed to be in a public place, but with some modesty. She didn't just openly fling a boob out, she kept baby close and covered. Nothing wrong and nothing more natural than caring for your child. I agree with our Euro friends here, Americans are often too uptight on this topic. Society has made the right thing to do a disgusting thing. We need to grow up.

If a woman is discretely breastfeeding, I have no problem with it. As you said, it's discreet. The problem I have is when it's not discreet.

And your probably right Rangerfan, once i'm a parent I may view it differently. Now that I am a non smoker, I view smoking differently in public places.

Breast feeding is not offensive. The picture on the cover is of a woman breast feeding. Breast feeding in public with no "towel" or "cover" or no discretion on the other hand, is offensive.

It's like nudity. There's nothing wrong with it. But I don't want to stand on the grocery line and have jim bob next to me with his schlong hanging out. Now if someone wants to put a picture of his schlong on a magazine cover, so be it. I don't have to look at the magazine cover if I choose not to. But if he's standing on the grocery line in back of me. It's pretty offensive.

btw, I think most people would not think of me as a prude. I'm a pretty liberal guy. I say live and let live. There should not be a law banning public breast feeding. I would vote against that. Mom's need to feed. All I ask is for a little courtesy and be private about it. Cover yourself. Or take it away from the dinner table where I am eating.
And anyone who thinks I am not sensitive to women, my fiancee feels the same way. It's not a man thing or a woman thing. It's about discretion.

This is off topic but I have to say that statement is wrong in so many ways. I can understand you not wanting to be a parent but to equate that to hating kids? Who in their right mind could hate kids?
