Range Rover owners please chime in

Friend of mine is considering a 2006 RR HSE for his wife. Nearest dealer is 75 miles away. She currently drives a 2005 RR LR3, likes it, no issues, very pleased with the car which they own outright. He has an aging Denali and wants the diesel E series Benz.

I am suggesting that he lease a 2006 RR HSE rather than buy, as in three years time it will be at the end of its body style run and gas will likely be $100bbl. I say trade the LR3 on the diesel Benz, and pay as little down as possible on the RR HSE lease. Fully optioned, they are getting a $1400 36/15K number. I doubt high-mileage Denalis bring much in trade, so stick that in Autotrader. Suggestions? I know someone here is very happy with their 2003 RR, but how good are the post-BMW RRs?

My 2006 Supercharged had lots of problems, from electrical glitches to oil leaks but since the x and I broke up I haven't seen it but I know its back from the shop so who knows, its a very nice car, comfy and overly luxurious but the heated windscreen drove me nuts, I would say gas efficiency is in the 12-13 range so not good but it could be worse.

My aunts 04' (which I drove for the past week) has had 0 problems for its 15k miles.

Interesting that your friend had a troublefree LR3. I've heard so many horror stories about that car. And now hearing blondboinsd's problems with his RR, makes me wonder how sporadic LR's reliability is...

Gas mileage wise, the 04' RR (with the old BMW 4.4i engine) gets 15.6 mpg when my aunt drives it, and 11-12 when I drive it

To be honest though, there are better choices out there...

I am so torn, its such an over the top fabulous suv, my mom drives the LX470(its competition) and while it is WAY more reliabile it is 1/3 the car the Range Rover is, if that, and everyone knows it, I'd say don't because while they are hit or miss on reliability the nearest dealer is 75 miles away

This is so true. The Range Rover really is a gem in the rough. Driving it I feel like British Royalty. It has a presence very few cars can match.

Does yours have the climated package with the heated windscreen?

Yeah. It has the heated windscreen, but I think it came standard for 04'. The only option to choose from in 04' was if we wanted the bigger 19'' or 20'' wheels i believe...

Boy, I never really heard any complaints about the RR when BMW was in the mix now that they are under the FORD conglomerate it seems like the wheels are falling off
