unless its really used, its gonna cost you $20k in B$ repairs.

+1 on used E36/46

Think of how worthless you expect it to be at the point where she gets a new one (or goes to college and doesn't need one) and look at leasing something safe...

I don't know HOW it works, but the superstealer will give a basic 328i for under $200 a month for two years. check it out for peace of mind.
That and apparently leasing is good for financials going into college, especially if you own a small business, at least thats what I've heard. IDK.

good luck pleasing her

late 70 to mid 80 cars...lots of metal...and cheap to repair if damaged plus there is usually no damage in colisions with vehicles like this

Here is what I would do,
She is only two years away from college. As such, she will probably need a vehicle that she can move stuff around in.
My first car was a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder, four door. I had it for about six years and used it to transport myself and all my stuff, to and from college, every year.
Had I had a civic or something, it would not have been practical.

Get her a SUV, but lay down the rules. (Can only have one passenger until she is 18), any speeding tickets and the car is taken away. Any DUI and she will never have a car bought for her again and she will have to reimburse you for all legal expenses and be grounded until she is 30.

That's what my parents did when I was of driving age. I think it worked pretty well.

What you are saying works in theory very well and barely works with now days teenagers, at least most of the teenagers around my area.

I completely agree on the harsh DUI and speeding ticket rules, but I dont know about the car being taken away with one speeding ticket. Most cops are always working to do the right thing, but there are some who are on power trips. Just like there are some people on power trips in every job. If she got a ticket for 63 in a 60, I wouldn't pull the car.

And for taking the car away with a passenger, over in Washington the first 6 months you are not allowed to have a passenger. Very few teenagers actually follow this, not to say they are right, but I mean if she was simply giving her friend a ride home from school a couple months after having her license I think taking the car away is a little harsh.

Most of my friends teenagers would not allow people for the first 6 months just like the law, but if arrangements were made to pick a friend up or simply go to the grocery store, that would be ok only if they approve.

Best advice being somewhere around her age, is to try to be open about the car and make it clear to her that you are willing to try and work with her throughout the interesting relationship between maturing, freedom, and responsibility.

Hey feel free to ask questions to us younger ones about how we would react to things, because you know teenagers have a reputation for doing whatever they can to do what they want.

Good luck man,

Austin
