Look for a used Nuvi. It's an amazing little device. Just picked one up, and I am very impressed.

Whatever you get, I suggest you ensure it has a headphone-out jack, in case you ever want to plug it into an AUX jack. Not all units have a jack.

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 With GPS Locator
Around $100 assuming you have a laptop. A budget solution.

I use Tomtom navigator 5 with bluetooth($300) and Palm T5, it does the job.
Yeah, I know Navteq maps are better, but it worked great when I was in Hawaii, (Oahu and Maui.)

I think new Sony stand alone GPS around $300.

Garmin c330 (I saw it at $399 at the local Wal Mart) or I5. The I5 is the one I have been using for 8 months now. It is mall but is an excellent GPS unit. Bright screen, great accuracy. Unlike the C330 it does not have a touch screen. The commands are a little akward at first but once you get use with the little wheel it works great. I use it on my motorbike too when I go for long riding trips.

I did research on this Finedrive 400. CNET gave them horrible reviews but users seem to think otherwise. Staples special at $400, touch screen, HDD, SD Slot, MP3 Player, Most Importantly NAVTEQ Maps, etc..
I found one on a website for 352.
