Best place for PC parts?
Hey all - encouraged by the replies to the recent Gaming thread I get a sense that people here can help me with a few questions.
My gaming pc that I've had (and improved on) for years finally gave up. It took a beating beeing sent across the atlantic. The worker at the local post office, to my great horror, threw the package on the counter like it was a box of potatoes - by then it was too late already. The box was more round than rectangular. Not surprisingly it havent worked quite right since it got here - and a few weeks ago it crapped out entirely - Blue Screens of Death were everywhere. Now I need to build a new one. My problem is that the stores I've gone to for parts never carry the stuff I want. The best stocked store i've been to so far is best buy - and they just carry a limited selection of the parts needed - and they have no CPU's or Motherboards at all The employee at Best Buy looked at me like I was from Mars when it dawned on him I wanted to build my own PC. This leads me to the questions - where can you buy proper PC parts in the US? Any good RL or online stores I should know of? and is it even done any more - or have everyone started just buying prebuilt computers?

Your best bet is Microcenter either at their store or online at microcenter.com. If you live near Fry's Electronics that would be even better.

newegg.com is my fav place too! Except for the case and power supply I bought all of the components for my present PC from them. Have not had to return anything.
