Valid point. The player is meant for the car and airplane. We have no problems getting her to read books. She read 150 books during the Kindergarten year. She is now reading chapter books during the summer holidays. In fact we have problems getting her to put down a book and come to the dinner table.

BTW, she has a gameboy that we bought her 2 years ago to keep her entertained when we go out for dinner. We have to nag her to play with it so that the adults can talk. She would much rather interact with the adults than play with the stupid thing.

I agree with you that much of today's music is trash. My daughter agrees too. She likes Van Morrison, Elton John, The English Beat and the Wiggles.

Get get her a 1GB Ipod Nano. That is what I got my 6 year-old. She loves to read also. The display is not hard for a 6 year-old to learn. Holds plenty of songs.

You may also want to consider the Creative MuVo TX. It's inexpensive, has a small display, and all you need is an available usb port.

I have a brand new 2 GB black IPOD nano that is new in the box. Reason for wanting to sell is I'm looking to get the 60Gig for the X5. I was awarded this at work for finishing up a big project. I'll probably post it in the for sale section soon but let me know if you are interested.

I can appreciate the usability of the device but i disagree with the statement "I understand she's only six, but the iPod is more than a music device nowadays." It implies that she ready for this technology. I believe a 6 year old has to progress in maturity before he or she gets to that level of usage.

IMHO 6 years old is a time for play, close interaction with parents, and lots of love from parents and extended family.

My grandson is 6 and what he needs is close supervision and continued moral education which must be taught by family and cannot be found under the headphones of an iPod. He does not need the distraction from the interaction with people and the life lessons he receives from extended family and friends who teach him how to get along with others. Getting along with others for us means not being rude by having headphones on in the presance of other people. That being the case right now he would have very little time to use an iPod even if he had one.

You make it sound like once a kid gets an iPod/MP3 player everything else they use to do gets put on hold. I don't see it that way. An iPod is no different than any other source of entertainment (toys, games, TV, radio, stereo, crafts, books, sports, conversation, etc). It's still up to the parents to regulate, monitor and guide their activities. There's nothing special about the iPod that would make it exempt from parental guidance in it's use. Besides, giving my daughter a personal music device saves me from having to listen to Brown Eyed Girl 40 times over a 6 hour road trip.

Get the Video man..I got the nano for my 6 year old, (now 7) and once she saw me on the plane watching Saturday Night Live on mine, that was it...We got her the video...

Shes not a brainiac, and she can Import CD's to iTunes, sync the iPod, everything..Libra (I forgot who introduced me to it on here, but I love you

) does it ALL...The only thing I dont let her do is buy music....and Im now showing her how to make her Playlists...Now shes got a bunch of complete seasons of her favorite shows, and more music than she could ever listen to...The only problem with young kids and iPods is, they NEVER turn it off...And Im guilty off it half the time as well...I think the "extended depress" is the worst part of using it....

Also, the price difference between the nano and a 30GB Video is not worth the difference, unless you WANT the decrease in size...To me, its a no brainer!

The cure?! Nintendo DS..NO KID gets bored with that thing..My daughter's Gameboy went to the wayside two weeks after we bought it...The DS is 8 months old and she plays with it like it was X-mas...You can race her with Mario Kart!!
