I agree on the corrupt part, but I cast my vote for the lesser of 2 evils

Yes, the whole system is corrupt. We need a system of publicly funded elections.

In the current system, money buys elections. Any candidate who does not cater to those with money and to big business will end up not raising enough money to win election. That leaves the poor and middle class with very little voice in our political system.

What you need to do is to do some research prior to voting. There plenty of good candidates out there who do not take money from the special interests. They obviously do not raise much money, and therefore cannot advertise, so you may not hear about them. But they are on the ballot, and htey have a platform that they run on. If you look on the internet before election time, you can read about them all, and if you go to their websites and register, they will send you some literature on themselves.

That's what I always do, and I have never voted for a Democrat or Republican in any election. But I always do vote. If more people did what I do, I suspect that the third parties would have more of a voice in our system. Whether or not they would become corrupt at that point remains to be seen.

in a democracy, the system is only as corrupt as the citizens allow it to be. let's face it, if every person that could vote - did vote, democrats would be fully in control.

politicians get hired by individuals that vote, so that's who the cater to. that's who they side with when they make decisions. the rich and big business is not the/a problem - since they are the voters, that's who benefits.

Most citizens are not aware of the level of corruption. Most citizens think that while there is some corruption, that the politicians do have their best interest in mind most of the time. You cannot have true democracy without an informed electorate, and in this country, the electorate is very naive and ignorant -- not because they are not intelligent, but because they have been propogandized. Regardless of how intelligent people are, they are only capable of being as informed as the information they are exposed to.

When they have taken polls in this country, what they have found is that on most issues, both conservatives and liberals think alike and have similar values and opinions. What they find is that the reason both vote differently is that both make their decisions based on a different set of "facts".

Until they return to that formula, they will tread water at best.
Tread water at best? They own the senate, house and white house! If that's treading water what're the dems doing??? SINKING!!!

when/if voter turnout gets to a respectable level, lets say 70%, then maybe i could buy an arrument about uninformed voters making bad decisions. the decison not to vote is an issue in itself.

Gee. that reminds me of an old Bush Joke, very popular across Europe:

Just before the last US Presidential elections, a schoolteacher in a West-Texas primary school classroom poses a question before her group of 8-year olds: "Now kids, here's a simple question that'll git free ice-cream to all of Y'all who raise yer hands; All of Y'all who're George W. Bush fans raise yer hands!" Everyone raises their hand, except little Johnny in the back corner. Bewildered, the teacher asks; "Now now li'l Johnny, why did you not raise yer hand?" the boy replies: "Well ma'am, cuz I'm a John F. Kerry fan!" "How Come??" the teacher asks, "Well, you see teacher, my momma's a Jonh F. Kerry Fan, and mah daddy's a Jonh F. Kerry Fan; so that makes ME a Jonh F. Kerry Fan". "Hmm" said the teacher "that's just not right li'l Johnny; what if yer momma was a Idiot and yer daddy wuz a Moron, what would that make you??"; "hell," said Johnny, "That'd make me a Bush fan! "

This break brought to you by your friendly Euro-liberal overwhelming majority.

Now Back to serious political debate.

Maybe! But the truth is:

People moving out, people moving in.
Why, because of the color of their skin.
Run, run, run but you sure can't hide.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
Vote for me and I'll set you free.
Rap on, brother, rap on.
Well, the only person talking about love thy brother is the...(preacher.)
And it seems nobody's interested in learning but the...(teacher.)
Segregation, determination, demonstration, integration, Aggravation, humiliation, obligation to our nation.
Ball of confusion.
Oh yeah, that's what the world is today.

Written in the 70's and have things gotten better
I think not.
