Getting Ready for Ernesto

I must be honest - living in South Florida is fun most of the year round! except when this happens!

Anyway I'm at home relaxing waiting for the storm

Looks like the storm will be hitting land south of me! - So far so good!

When we left our Season Starter Shack in Naples, in late April, I put up all the galvanized, corrugated bs metal "shutters" on every freakin window, slider, etc.

Some of the full timers were pissed and tried to point out the "put up/take down" language in our HOA rules and regs. I asked my FL barrister and he said I could go ahead to protect my joint...not exactly around the corner and handy.

Hope ya'll do fine and I hope the sucker turns hard right, and goes out to sea.

Let me ask you how long have you lived in South Florida? In 1992 it was worth preparing for a little storm known as Andrew! But this storm is going to pose no threat to you guys whatsoever. You might get a little rain and the surfers won't be throwing a party next door because they will be at the beach trying to wait for waves that aren't coming.

I lost everything I had in 1992 including the house I lived in and everything that my family and I had. I also lived in a Mobile Military Facility for several weeks because of the devastation Andrew caused. I think all you are going to need is some gas in your vehicle becuase the price will reduce today and tomorrow.

The fan on my bedroom ceiling will be more destructive than Ernesto, I promise! I will be in town for the Miami game at the Orange Bowl on monday. Its really hilarious to hear the radio reports saying if Ernesto damages the Orange Bowl they have to move the venue hosting! You guys will have rain only that's it. Grab an Umbrella.

acedeucy: to whom is your question directed?

I put up my shutters when I migrated north for the season...I'm not "there", now.

Sorry about your house.

Ivan and Frances kicked our asses, here in far western NC, 2 summers
ago, up at 5,000 feet altitude. The 'Canes are more than a sea level
storm, imo, and the "arms" that flow/extend out from the center are
the killers for us here in the Mtns.

You do realize NYC is overdue for an earthquake right? It least we prepare for it In addition we RARELY have earthquakes here, and their much more rare then hurricanes or tornado's, seems almost idiotic to me to put yourself in constant danger

Thanks for the kind words.

My parents currently live in Wellington in West Palm and they decided not to shack up for this one.

Back in '92 I lived in Gables by the Sea off of Old Cutler Road in Pinecrest Area.

That was so below sea level that after the Hurricane in 92, that I renamed the neighborhood Gables Under The Sea.

Ridiculous. Everything was covered by about 9 feet of water. The Military had so many checkpoints set up around my neighborhood so you had to pass through these checkpoints and they would escort you to your house or in my case what was left of it. (A TOTAL LOSS) I remember there was a National Guard Soldier sloshing around in my house escorting my father and I. We had a big fish tank in the house that didn't break because the water level came up and eventually went back down and this tank was so big and heavy it was covered in all the muck and mud after the storm passed over several days later. This Military Soldier was stepping around with his gun over his head and stepped on my fish tank. It obviously broke but he couldn't see it because he was up to his lower waist in mud. So I remember he stepped out of the tank and scrapped his whole leg and it actually ripped most of his skin off of his leg. I had never heard someone scream so loud and never seen so much blood before at the time. He grabbed his radio and we all got airlifted out. This guys leg was hanging in several pieces. Real bad scene. But that was the devastation level in my neighboorhood. It was almost to the point that Marshall Law was enstated.

So let us pray nothing like Andrew resurfaces and a fluke Hurricane isn't spawned over the next 24-48 hours. But I honestly beleive this will be a tease.

Good Luck to all in S. Florida and Go Canes. C Ya on Monday night!

Reminds me of when we had the wildfires here in Scripps Ranch (where I went to HS) and we had to show ID cards to get back into our burned down home development
