Thanks for the kind words.

My parents currently live in Wellington in West Palm and they decided not to shack up for this one.

Back in '92 I lived in Gables by the Sea off of Old Cutler Road in Pinecrest Area.

That was so below sea level that after the Hurricane in 92, that I renamed the neighborhood Gables Under The Sea.

Ridiculous. Everything was covered by about 9 feet of water. The Military had so many checkpoints set up around my neighborhood so you had to pass through these checkpoints and they would escort you to your house or in my case what was left of it. (A TOTAL LOSS) I remember there was a National Guard Soldier sloshing around in my house escorting my father and I. We had a big fish tank in the house that didn't break because the water level came up and eventually went back down and this tank was so big and heavy it was covered in all the muck and mud after the storm passed over several days later. This Military Soldier was stepping around with his gun over his head and stepped on my fish tank. It obviously broke but he couldn't see it because he was up to his lower waist in mud. So I remember he stepped out of the tank and scrapped his whole leg and it actually ripped most of his skin off of his leg. I had never heard someone scream so loud and never seen so much blood before at the time. He grabbed his radio and we all got airlifted out. This guys leg was hanging in several pieces. Real bad scene. But that was the devastation level in my neighboorhood. It was almost to the point that Marshall Law was enstated.

So let us pray nothing like Andrew resurfaces and a fluke Hurricane isn't spawned over the next 24-48 hours. But I honestly beleive this will be a tease.

Good Luck to all in S. Florida and Go Canes. C Ya on Monday night!

Reminds me of when we had the wildfires here in Scripps Ranch (where I went to HS) and we had to show ID cards to get back into our burned down home development

Lots of rain with this one, and that's about it.

Cat 1's don't scare us around here anymore. It takes a 2 to get our attention, and a 3 to consider leaving.

As for living in the keys, go there, and then you'll have your answer.

David, don't the shutters all over the windows tell the crooks that you ain't home and it's ok to steal y'all's sh*t?

Or do you have a boss security system at the starter shack? Rottweiler on an auto feeder with a dash of gunpowder mixed in to each bowl of kibble?

OT...JV, yeah they probably do. We have a handyman/house looker who comes in once a weekish, runs the taps, looks around, etc. He used to do shutter put ups/take downs, but as he is in his late '50s, and having to put up 3 or 4 dozen sets in a dayish, when a storm comes, isn't up his alley anymore.

We checked around for reliable people to do the shutter thing, but found none, last season. And, not sure I need another key(s) out in circ., and if the crap really hits the fan, an able bodied guy can only knock off 3-4 houses a day, shutter-wise. So, it's a conumdrum...

I'm geographically not "around", so we rolled the dice and put them up.
Fook the few full time neighbors...

It does have decent alarm sys., and there really isn't a lot of "stuff" in the dormant house, to take. It's just "stuff" anyhow...

Headlines in The Miami Herald...

"THE STORM THAT NEVER CAME!"

People are still waiting for some action down there or at least some good excuse for going crazy with storm preparation.

Reports show that the car wash down the street was 10 times more deadly than TS Ernesto!

The kids were hoping for tropical storm warnings and school cancellations. We didn't get them, and they had to go.

This is much better than 2 years ago. For 6 straight weeks, we were under hurricane warnings every single weekend. It was weird - it was summer when this started (mid-August), and Fall when it ended (early Oct). In between, we stayed in the house and watched it rain, removed tree limbs, fixed holes in the pool screen, etc.
