Anyone have an indoor pool? Seeking insight...
One of the features I'm more than seriously considering is an indoor pool. I already had an architect over to help me scope things out, and he feels it's doable, but there's lots to consider... My "pool room" will also be my living/entertaining room. I want to spend most of my home/leisure time there so there will also be a big screen TV, fireplace, indoor grill, jacuzzi, etc... At this point in my early educational ramp up, I'm thinking the most challenging aspect of this "pool room" will be environmental control. As such, I'm seeking some insight from folks who have experience with indoor pools. I certainly don't want my house to smell like the YMCA when you walk through the front door, but I also don't want my "pool room" to smell like a "Y" either. I've got 30+ years experience with outdoor pools, but zero with indoor pools. I know there are quite a few sanitizing options other than chlorine (which I use now for my current outdoor pool), but I've yet to do the research to figure out the best sanitizing option for an indoor pool. So the research starts here - the best website on the planet. In addition to the sanitization challenge, can anyone offer more insight on owning and maintaining an indoor pool? Here's just a short list of things I need to think about.... - Sanitization - chlorine, bromine, etc.? - Environment control - HVAC, humidity control, condensation control, etc. - Materials - gunite, tile, vinyl liner, solid surfacing - something that needs very infrequent replacement/refinishing...? - Decking materials - tile, carpet, wood, clever cement? - Pool cover - electronic, heat-saving, something that can hold weight? (dance floor?) - Room insulation - I want as much glass as possible, but I live in New England - Retractable roof - am I crazy? - Plumbing - I'm thinking I'd like to have piped-in water for filling/refilling due to evaporation and also a built-in drain that can handle 30,000 gallons if I ever need to drain for refinishing - ...and probably a gazillion other things I'll need to consider Any thoughts, experience, insight to share? What else do I need to consider?

I used to have an indoor pool! - Great for all year round usage however!- I would not have the same room double up as a living room! - the chlorine smell will drive you nuts
