Is that calculation done using UK gallon or US gallon?

Hope you guys in the US are allowed to have diesels soon. I really believe more than 60% of US members on this forum would switch to diesel in a cinch. I'd never give up my '06 manual 3.0d X5 for a gasoline ride. The torque on this thing is just addictive (404 lbs/ft at little over 2.500 rpm with the magic li'l "tunit" box). Now when the E70 comes out with the 335d engine..... hmmm....

We have a 3.0d X5 and I am taking delivery of my new Audi A3 Quattro next week. 2.0Tdi, 170 BHP and 350nM of Torque at 1750-2500rpm. Quoted figures are urban 36mpg, extra-urban 60mpg and combined 48mpg. This is UK gallons though and that 320d would have been too. Given that diesel is about $2 a gallon here and petrol not far off we need that bit extra lol !!!

We are allowed to have diesels. Most of the car companies just simply choose not to import diesels. Nobody knows why for sure, but I would guess some influence from the oil companies plays a part in all of this.

It takes less energy to refine diesel from oil than gas and diesel is 20 to 40% more efficient than gas so why is there not more diesel cars in the USA? I believe the main reasons are a) In the USA Diesel is still often associated with dirty polluting trucks b) Diesel in the USA is much less refined than in Europe and consequently modern European diesel engines would not work as efficiently
