Against the war on terrorism?

For those of you that don't support our fight on terrorism there are three points I would like to share:
1. You don't understand the threat.
2. You encourage our enemy and give them what they desire.
3. You demoralize those of us in the military.

For those who have not served this country in war you can have no idea what it's like to be so far from home & family in harms way. To hear of you who don't believe in our cause is nothing but a detriment to our mission and thus making it more difficult for us to serve. The bottom line is if you don't support our mission you do not support us. For you to challenge our mission is like enabling the enemies propaganda. We believe in what we are doing in this war. We've been there and have seen first hand why we are there and the purpose the conflict is serving. Until you have been there or have served before, no, you can have no idea how emotionally or physically draining war is. WE ARE AT WAR! Please curb your negative political rhetoric for the sake of those who are sacrificing so much for YOU. Yes, we serve our country for YOU. Everything you have in this life including your career, your home, your X5, and your entire way of life is there because of the sacrifices of previous and current men and women who had the courage to serve this nation. Yes, for us to serve our country was a choice we made and we definitely don't serve for the money or glory. We serve because we are proud of our nation and the freedoms we have. We are proud to be able to do something worthwhile for this country and all of you. Now, please give something back to us and give us the support we need to serve for you and your loved ones.

I support the troops but it was a choice you made, I still think the president is evil and the war is useless

Lambeau, I understand your point of view, but I have a very general question for you:

In your opinion, what should a person do who thinks the path their country has taken with a war is wrong?

For example, what should a good Iraqi patriot have done in 1990 when his country invaded Kuwait. Or what should a good German patriot have done when his country invaded Poland in 1939.

What do you think a person should do when they think their government has started a misguided war such as the 2 examples given above? Should they hush up and keep quiet so as not to demoralize the troops, or should they speak out against the war?

And BTW, I know you probably think the 2 examples above are outrageous and are probably going to scold me for giving 2 such examples, but in my opinion the current war is exactly like those 2 examples.

To put an example out there that you can relate to, what if we elected a Democrat to be President in 2008 and he ordered an unjustified invasion of Israel? What would be the patriotic thing to do? What would you do?

So if you believed that, what would be the patriotic thing to do?
You are correct Eric, the two examples are poor comparisons (IMO) but I know your intentions with this. The prime difference is that many elected officials voted to go to war in Iraq & for the other two examples that was not the case. The president AND the elected officials made their decisions on the intel available at the time. Intel is a constantly changing tool used to make decisions.

Now, for your question I believe the patriotic thing to do is to use the voting process to voice your desires. But, to constantly criticize our commander in chief is not the proper thing to do in the time of war against such a persistent & dangerous enemy. It really does embolden the enemy. Eric, I am truly sincere when I say that the negative voice coming from those against this war is demoralizing to us. It's as if those Americans are cheering for the enemy instead of us. It's hard enough battling the enemy and the fact our loved ones are so far away but when our fellow Americans we serve for don't believe in our mission it is devastating. Sure, part of what we fight for is the "freedom of speech" but while at war our fellow Americans back home should be more thoughtful about what they say and do. Can you not see the terrorists thinking this: "See how Americans are speaking out against their president? This is a sign from Allah that we must continue and strengthen our cause to kill the American infidels." But, if most if not all Americans were with us in this war could you not see how demoralizing that would be to the terrorists? You are all part of our team as fellow Americans. Most of you have played organized sports and imagine trying to win if many on your team believed you couldn't win or should even be battling on the field. Those of us on the team that are giving all of our heart and soul to the fight want the rest of the team to believe we can win. We can then draw the support and willpower from them too in helping the cause.

Thanks for understanding my thoughts.

I am happy Bush is wanting to destory terrorism around the world, frankly speaking at some of the stuff i've see from the middleeast tv, and religious sermon wise, to them we are cows, and that we should die. I just don't understand why they want to kill everyone... oh i was talking about the radical muslims. I realize that there are muslims who don't want this but they cannot speak up, if they did they'd die. It just teh way it works over in those muslim countries. I also hate the fact that they are teaching children to hate the rest of the world. They are creating a new Nazi terror, in an effort to elimate everyone else and make them the solo and supreme power. I support you to the fullest, I hope you continue to safe guard basic freedoms we enjoy right now. (size of radical est muslim 10% of 1 billion= 100 million scary) Please don't forget that I have nothing agaisnt other muslim people you just want to live happily.

Lambeau:

I edited my post after you had already responded, but here is a better example put in your perspective:

Imagine that in 2008, an extremely liberal Democrat is elected to be President -- the type of liberal that is very pro-Palestinean.

And imagine that one year into his Presidency, he launches an invasion of Israel to "liberate" Palestine from the Israelis. Imagine it was called "Operation Middle East Freedom".

Would you follow your own advise that you just posted above? Would you support the effort? Or would you speak out against it because you think it is wrong?
