And B-Line, don't leave an infant or child alone with a dog you don't know. It seems like with animals it is fine to simply bulk them together. I would invite anyone to spend a day with my Pit and tell me she is vicious. I guess people that comment without ever have owned the breed don't really stand on solid ground.

I usually avoid these kinds of "discussions", specifically because I don't enjoy participating in logical monologue, with others who wish to be emotional. You cannot compare guns with dogs...a gun won't fire itself, but even the most carefully socialized animal is not 100% predictable.

We have a neutered 70lb boxer who is most serene and loving animal, and who is great around my 2 yr old niece, but the two of them will never be together unless I am right there with one hand on my dog's throat feeling for a growl or a tensing of the muscles. A dog, be it a Rott or a MinPin, can snap or bite with no warning...they do not have the same self-restraint and ability to reason as humans. And dogs are lightning quick...ever tried to do a play by play on a dogfight? Children should never be left alone with a dog that can hurt them, because dogs, on their own free will, can attack. And thus they can be blamed.

I was thinking of this thread this morning when I was reading about how a Pit Bull killed a chihuahua in North County

I have decided to sign the petition to ban Pit Bulls in CA, I'm sorry to anyone who owns them but I think their a danger to society, poor Chiahuahua!

I'm going to avoid what I'd really like to say to that comment. Especially from someone who's choices differ from a majority of society, yet asks for acceptance.

Very true. My only complaint is when people insist it can be regulated to a particular 'breed'.

Well I have obviously had bad experiances with those dogs, now you can call it media saturation etc but in reality and in recent published reports the most vicious breeds were
1-pit bull
2-german shepard

That is based on attacks in the last year, I do try and accept all breeds but it is very tuff for me to do that with all the negative publicity they generate
