Rottweilers

After the recent tragedy in England

What do you reckon then.

Should Rottweilers be kept as pets.

I reckon in some cases it's the owners that shouldn't be kept but in general I would have to say no

Banning a breed because of what a few dogs have done is insane. I have a Pit bull whose parents were both illegally fought. My dog is now 6 years old (I had her since she was 8 weeks), she is completely laid back and amazing around babies. However, most people freak when they here what breed she is.

I'm entirely against banning any breed of dog because of what a few dogs (out of millions) have done. Dog attacks, no matter the breed, are almost always a direct result of piss-poor owners who either aren't paying attention, don't know where their animal is or do stupid things such as leaving a dog of more then 10lbs alone with a child.

Just societies way of again releasing humans of any culpability.

Rottweilers ARE protective by nature. They are also wonderful family pets. Just about any dog can be trained to be vicious. Rotties, when raised "normally" (not taught to fight), are great dogs. As Wagner said, most cases of dog attacks can be traced back to owners who raised the dog to be an attack animal.

The Rottie is calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. They have a reliable temperament. Protective, he will defend his family fiercely. my brother has one and this is the best dog you can ever have to protect the kid, His dog is very well behaved along, as you don’t get close to the kids.

i have, well had, 2 Rotts and both were as kind and gentle around children
and my family as any other dog i've ever owned. the one that is currently
still alive, we've had since 8 weeks. at the time we bought her, my nephew
was just a little over 1 year old. she would follow him thru the house and just
about anywhere he went. never was she aggressive towards our family. the
Rott that we just had to put to sleep, he was the only male from the
aforementioned Rotts litter. he, too, was raised around 2 new children in the
family. never was he aggressive towards any of the children or other family
members. as the others have mentioned, if u were to get to close to
someone in our family, both Rotts would let u know just who's who. the Rott
we just put to sleep was extremely protective of our house and the property
around it. he would let u when u were gettign to close to the house.
all-in-all, i doubt i will ever own another breed of dog other than a Rott.

All dogs have the capability to be mean and aggressive (except Ryan's ankle-biter) and it's dependent on how the owner raises/trains that animal. Yes, some breeds have a bad temperment that that may be more predominent for that breed but it can be controlled.

Hey Ryan, could Biscuit protect you from that occasional gerbil that may get into the house somehow???

One problems is that some dogs aggressive to people walking by, unlike other dogs that are trained to be aggressive only when someone walks into their property or attack their owners.

H'mm the dog lover in me says yes to all dogs being suitable pets.

However you can never 100% say your dog is a big softie.

the trouble for me with the likes of Rottweilers these are big powerful dogs if your out walking them on the lead and something (for whatever reason) takes their attention and they are after it it would take a lot to hold them back.

It takes me all my time to hold back Molly our Beardie Collie she is hald the weight of a Rotti.

Pitbulls oh would nae trust them man they have powerful jaws once the've locked on it would take alot to get them to release.

haha hes protective of me whether he could actually defend me or not he still tries I think a dog is a product of their environment but I must admit Rotties don't really scare me but Pitt Bulls are a whole differernt story I don't feel at ease around them at all.
