Ok, getting sick of MS and their patches, what Mac should I get?

I don't need another laptop. I will keep my 2.8 lb VAIO laptop until it dies.

However, thinking about another desktop and seriously considering the Mac.

Mac Pro vs. 24" iMac....pros & cons. Besides the price difference, I just want it for internet browsing, MS Office stuff, and editing camcorder videos. I am NOT a graphic artist and don't need to run 5 HD Video at the sametime.

Opinions?

Also, when is Apple releasing a new updated OS?

Am itching to order the iMac 24 loaded to the hilt! I already have a bluetooth Apple keyboard and mouse, plus Powerbook 17 for client presentations.

Am also ordering "Parallels" so I can run windows side by side with OSX and get rid of my Dell laptop which I use for MLS (Real Estate site). Just heard that Parallels has also been updated so it can run Vista and Leopard! It's the ultimate combo, I think, and I'm not even a windoz fan.

Actually my other choice was to get a Macbook plus a 23" HD Monitor but I'm leaning towards the above combo because I already have 2 laptops.

I think you can't go wrong with either of your choices 24"imac vs. macbook pro

No advice, but good choice. I switched to Mac a little less than a year ago.. No problems with the machine, whatsoever. It's great.
I hear Jaguar, the new OS version, is coming out in November?

I think you meant Leopard instead of Jaguar. It's supposed to come out in Spring 2007 but regardless, it will be an uncomplicated and a painless upgrade when it hits the shelves.

I have left xoutpost.com prominently displayed at several Apple Stores on the 30" monitor!!

Hey, if xoutpost.com works well with the Macs, then I am there!!

Smart choice,

I was a die hard PC guy until 3 years ago. I left my office (and my tech support staff) behind in Miami when I moved to LA. I quickly realized that the 4 PC computers I had and no technicians to keep them running properly was a big problem. Within 6 months, all 4 cpu's were at some level of broken.

So I bought a MAC. I bought a G5 Workstation (I do a lot of video, photography, etc.) then quickly went out and bought a MAC Powerbook (laptop) to accompany it. I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER.

I don't get bugs, viruses, pop-ups, driver issues, etc. Mac is really the best solution for the home user. I am not talking about corporate function but for individuals who don't want the hassle of PC problems.

I would suggest you go to a store and "try a few on for size" you will find a cpu that fits your needs nicely. They have a nice selection.

Depends what you want. iMacs in the past would have left you hanging, if you wanted to upgrade. But, the 24" has

- a socketed intel CPU, so you could always upgrade.
- apparently a socketed mobile GPU (iMacs are mobile chipsets, i.e. basically a macbook pro).

I'd go for a Mac Pro, if you already have a sizeable investment in a nice screen that you could hook up your Mac Pro up to.

If you have any more specific questions, please ask... we're hear to help !

NO bout a doubt it 24" iMac. But wait till Macworld when the new ones will ship with the OS installed. Oh your gonna love this. I'm still using my desktop. it's almost 5 years old and like everyone else No OS problems. Doing Video , Audio, and whatever.

I gave my grandkids 2 iMac's and someone figured out a way to install the latest OS on them. I couldn't believe it so they are still running as well.

I just lugged home a new Mac Pro for the wife. It's gorgeous, as are most Apple products, and the insides are like a work of art. We haven't even set it up yet. It cost about $3000 without a monitor. Depending on cost you might want to get the iMac just for the simplicity and space savings of it. Since you don't do the heavy graphics or video stuff you really don't need to go all out on the Mac Pro. You'd also get a nice monitor as well whereas if you get the Mac Pro you're going to have to spring for a good monitor and if you go with the Apple Cinema Views you're going to have to pay large. We've got two Viewsonic 20" widescreens to run side by side with the Mac Pro.

I have heard that there will be another update of the Intel CPU's sometime very late this year or early next year. They're supposed to run cooler or some such thing. Some people might advise you to wait for that and the introduction of Leopard. We didn't have a choice as the need for a new Mac was immediate.

Whatever you buy, buy two and give me one.
