North Korea Nuclear Test?

The evidence is inconclusive at best. It was much smaller than expected. There is no increase in radiation. What do you think?

Wasn't nuclear IMO, of course I'm basing this only on my own thoughts

I would imagine it was several tons of explosives detonated at once. Kim Jong is so bent for attention since the middle east is the worlds focus, he'll do anything.

An underground test is done for the explicit purpose of trying to keep radiation to zero.

However I like to believe that they tried and failed. But I guess we will find out with number 2...

I can't really vote because if we are proposing sanctions, then has it not been established it was nuclear?

Yes. If there was strong enough doubt, then there would not be talk of sanctions at the United Nations and the Bush Administration would be making this claim every chance they get.

The only way I think it actually helps them in their agenda is that they can now point at Iran and say "we don't want them to do what North Korea did". Other than that, this whole thing is bad PR for them.

Eric, don't you think that exact speculation would be the think that makes China and Japan not want sanctions?

China and Japan have their own experts. I'm sure they do not need the US government to tell them whether or not there was a real nuclear test in a country next door to them. The fact that China is even entertaining the idea of sanctions tells me that they believe there was a real nuclear test.

Whatever the Bush Administration says about whether or not there was a test will not affect what China or Japan do. However, it will have an effect on the opinions of the American public.
