Despicable. A one game suspension is not enough. They should all get 3 games, and the ones who used helmets for weapons should be out the rest of the season.

If action is not dramatic, where's the disincentive to not do that again?

1 game and 3 game??? The whole team should be suspended for the remainder of the year, should not be permitted to play in a bowl game for the next 3 years, and the coach should be fired IMMEDIATELY for being unable to control HIS team.

Definately not the coaches fault. What would you do if your teammate was on the ground getting kicked? You wouldn't just stand on the sidelines. I'm not defending them but believe me, I played in college and you look after one another on and off the field. With that said, anyone caught on film throwing punches i would say 1-2 game suspensions, the kids caught kicking, swinging the helmet and the guy that body slammed the other player i would kick out of the program. Very disgraceful and embarrassing for sure but banning the two schools from bowl games for 3 years, you don't even get that with severe recruiting violations.

And tell me that this column makes sense Even if you're a Canes fan, even though he tries with one weak line to disavow what is the driving message of his writing...that is pathetic and Freeman should be fired.
