Any Vets or people who know alot about dogs?

I have 1ish year old Chihuahua named Biscuit and since about mid-August (approx) his paws have been really bothering him, he is constantly licking them and nibbling them so much I end up giving him Benedril to calm him down. I took him to the vet twice and he has been no help, changed his diet to weed out any form of white bread or grains which has helped a little and I just have no idea what to do, I feel HORRIBLE for him, any ideas?

w/Roc3b...probably a yeast/fungal infection. Dip them in a 50-50 solution of Listerine and water if he'll let you. Buy some Bitter Apple spray at the pet store and spray it on the paws to stop him from licking and biting them.

Could it be a ring worm like athlete's foot or heat rash? I think they are the same thing.
If so, you might want to try some Lamisil or somthing..

But if I were you, I would try another vet.

Yes my vet has proved utterly useless lol He has ALL his shots (ringworm, heart worm (had the tests run 4 months ago) and everything is up to date

Ring worm (I think) is the same thing as heat rash. Which is the same thing as Athlete's foot, jock itch, etc. It is very common in summer (hot months) for humans so I would assume it's also common for dogs. -- I had a heat rash in my arm pit this past summer (hey, it happens ) this is why I know so much about it.

My close friend who is a dermatologist suggested I use two over the counter medications to get rid of it. They worked great.
First, go buy your dog some human hair shampoo. Give it a try, it's called NIZORAL. It is sold in every pharmacy and comes packaged in a box. This should immediately help the itching.
But to get rid of the rash, you are going to need an anti-funghal cream (I assume) It takes about six weeks to rid the rash but after using the Nizoral, there should be no discomfort.
So for cream, use Lamisil. Maybe put some socks with rubberbands on your dogs feet so he doesn't eat the cream. You will have to use the cream in two doses a day. Morning and evening. Repeat for six weeks.

Good luck.

Ringworm is not a worm, and your dog did not get shots to prevent it. It is also not the same as heat rash. It is a superficial fungal infection of the skin. The Lamisil suggestion is fine, if it is ringworm, which I doubt.

I suspect the dog is expressing an allergic reaction to something. Often they will be allergic to a particular grass or something. Ears and paws are commonly the primary areas for them to have their allergic reactions.

Discuss possible allergy treatment with your vet. If he is not willing to at least tell you why this is NOT an allergy...get a new vet.
