Hey everyone!

I am working on my music library, and I am trying to find different genres to add to it. I was wondering if anyone here listens to electronica, and can recommend some good music. Thanks in advance.

I'm not really into electronica but I got a CD that is quite interesting. Psapp is a "toytronica" group with lots of interesting sounds. You might recognize the sound as this group did the song used as the theme for "Grey's Anatomy".

What exactly is electronica?

I used to listen to a lot of Impulse Tracker and Scream Tracker music from computer games, and that was the closest I got to electronic music

Check out the Allmusic.com website which is a catalogue of all music sorted by album, artist, and genre. There are plenty of samples to listen to.

"Reaching back to grab the grooves of '70s disco/funk and the gadgets of electronic composition, Electronica soon became a whole new entity in and of itself, spinning off new sounds and subgenres with no end in sight two decades down the pike. Its beginnings came in the post-disco environment of Chicago/New York and Detroit, the cities who spawned house and techno (respectively) during the 1980s. Later that decade, club-goers in Britain latched onto the fusion of mechanical and sensual, and returned the favor to hungry Americans with new styles like jungle/drum'n'bass and trip-hop. Though most all early electronica was danceable, by the beginning of the '90s, producers were also making music for the headphones and chill-out areas as well, resulting in dozens of stylistic fusions like ambient-house, experimental techno, tech-house, electro-techno, etc. Typical for the many styles gathered under the umbrella was a focus on danceable grooves, very loose song structure (if any), and, in many producers, a relentless desire to find a new sound no matter how tepid the results.

These are some major standouts, but there are hundreds out there worth listening to.........
I've got close to 4,000 CD's and I would say 1/4 is Trance/Dance/Electronica music.

Hey Driver X5,

I used to freelance as a photographer for two electronic music magazines, Mixer and Revolution. In addition, I directed an award winning documentary on the growth of electronic music in the US. I am glad to say, I can help you with this one.

I can get into more specifics if you want later but for now, I will start you with a couple of essential albums you should buy.

2) Global Underground "OSLO" by Paul Oakenfold http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...0&Go.y=0&Go=Go
3) "Airdrawndagger" by Sasha

Most of the "Global Underground" series are VERY good as are the "Essential" series hosted by Pete Tong.
Most of these albums are a bit pricey as they are imports but well worth the money.

That should get you started..
