People with pickup trucks need to learn how to secure cargo..

This afternoon I witnessed a big accident that could have been avoided if people in this state would actually take the time to secure their cargo..
I was going south on the Everett Turnpike.. A full-sized sofa fell out of a pickup into the fast lane. The guy didn't even stop. There was an Audi A6 behind the truck, and it swerved to miss the sofa, but hit it anyway. It was rear-ended by a Camry, both cars spun into the barrier and a Corolla hit them.. The rest of us had to slam on the brakes.. Luckily nobody was tailgating me.. my ABS was on. I turned on my hazard flashers to warn the people behind me.. The wrecked cars were blocking the left lane and the middle lane.. People were screeching to a halt and swerving all over the place. It was intense.
SECURE CARGO.

I can here the guy loading the truck now:
"Aw, it'll be awl right... We just gonna be on the freeway fer a lil' bit. An we'll stay in the left lane so's not to git in anybody's way."

What a dufass. Did the people in the truck ever come back to get their sofa?

Never follow a pick-up truck or a open tractor trailer. This is not the first time I have heard, and cargo flying from 18 wheelers is worse. I learnt my lesson the hard way when a scrap metal flew of the back of 18 wheeler and hit the A-pillar in front of me, barely missing me.

I had an experience like this a while back. This took place in the city though. I was driving next to this pickup truck, that was carrying a bunch of wood scraps and other debris. the truck was in a car ahead of me in the lane to my right. When the light turned green, the guy hit the gas, and his load came flying out the back. The tailgate was down. It made a huge mess on the street. Luckily no one was too close behind him.

In general pick-up truck drivers need to learn how to drive!

Wow that sounds intense to actually witness it. Was anyone hurt?

A few years ago there was a report of a guy who had a washing machine in his truck and it flew out. It caused an accident where someone was killed. The driver never came back and was caught the next week when he went to the same store to by another washing machine and the clerk recognized him and called the police.

I understand mistakes happen, I just wish people would own up to them.

Cops should ticket trucks with unsecured loads

They should ticket cars and trucks that belch smoke.

The traffic rules should focus on safety not speed.
