She wondered why I was going to such effort to host an event for many people I've never met. Perhaps there were more significant others who thought the same thing or worse. Ultimately the skeptical found out that those strangers online don't have horns or eat babies for breakfast but instead are a diverse group of very interesting people who share a common interest in BMW's and enjoying life.
My wife laughed at me when I told her about going to DC to the meet early this year.
Thanks for hosting Westfest IV, wish I could have made it.

Great write-up Kevin. Nice meeting you, I owe you one big time. This is what Kevin did to me at Westfest IV.

I drove 8 hours to get there, I pull up to the hotel for registration. Kevin walks up to me and introduces himself. And then he said, "John, didn't you get the email?" I left the house early so didn't even turn on my computer.

"Oh, Westfest is cancelled due to the fire and the lack of attendance!" I am going WTF, I just drove 8 hours, right through the Riverside fire, risked getting multiple speeding tickets...... I betcha the look on my face was priceless.

Good one, Kevin. I owe you one big time!

But seriously though, thanks for putting on such a tremendous event. We couldn't have done it without you. I look forward to the next WF

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thank you again for all the planning of WestFest IV!!

You deserve a break today!

Anyhow, WestFest I started in 2002 (I believe it was January 2002) but I will check the date of the digital pics.

WestFest II was in July 2002. And the rest is history!!

Yep that sums it up. BTW a special thanks to you for making the trip worthwhile. people are still asking what I did over the weekend and i'm still trying to find the words to explain that i drove a great distance to meet with people i met on the Internet. Of course i wasn't that simple i know but if i get to explaining it i really get started and if i get rolling theres no turning me off. So today there i am talking about it again because someone asked. I'm trying to shut it off but they keep pumping me for info arggg.
Finally ended up saying you know something? You really need to take the wife on a X5 test drive. Might be a real eye opener.

What makes people spend serious money to fly or drive great distances to meet with people they met on some Internet BMW forum? Was it the thought of a relaxing weekend of sun and relaxation in La Quinta, California? I don't think so. Was it the chance to check out other people's X5's? Hmmm. Nope. Perhaps it was the free food and chance to win some cool prizes? Not likely. What was it then? It was the chance to meet people with whom we have established relationships here. Remember, here at xoutpost.com you come for the information but stay for the friendships.

That's all folks! Have a great weekend!
