Alpine Rasta Gave Me an Idea...

Realizing of course that there is a great divide between those who believe we are fighting for the right to determine where the free world will be in 500 years, and those who think the Iraq War is to pump up Dick Cheney's stock options, at the end of the day, two stadiums' full of our fellow Americans are over seas laying there ass on the line, doing what they signed up to do, regardless of whether they agree with it, and risking death or maiming every day. And the pay sucks.

Is there any way that this forum could colectively pledge some support (be it moral or through simply an e-mail campaign) to a group (platoon?) of folks "over there". Is there such a thing as an-adopt a platoon program? Keeping in mind, this would not be a politically spun endeavour, just a neutral way of saying, "hey, we recognize your sacrifice." Ideas anyone?

I like the idea! It would be difficult for people to kkep there opinions out though. I think it would be a great way to show our support. Whether we agree or not these are our countrymen/women putting the #ss on the line.

i like it too! i just don't know how to go about it.

whether or not you support this war or this administration you still have to support the men and women fighting. period. we lost 104 pp in october making it the fourth highest month since the war began in march of 03.

Man, when I was in the first Gulf War, some of my father's customers sent me a huge care package...that was the best! stupid crap like TP, WETNAPs, sunglasses, all were huge. What we need is for someone to sponsor a platoon..like if a friend of a family member or a friend that we know is there, they could tell us what they need and we could send it.

Does anyone have a Mother, Father, Sibling or Child engaged in harm's way?

When I was sending stuff to my buddy in Afghanistan (Air Cav Apache pilot with NC ANG), anything that came in a box with US postage was good news. I could've sent him grass clippings and it would've been appreciated. He's off the roster and back surfing in Costa Rica, but I could find out if his peeps are still there...though I think some of the folks in the Sunni Triangle could likely use some good cheer...that's a tough beat.
