Back from the Outer Banks

Got a chance to take the X5 on a 500 mile round trip over the long weekend. Smooth cruising on the highway, and the comfort seats are fantastic.

I even got a chance to do a little off roadin' in the X. The northern beaches heading up towards the VA-NC border have no paved road access, so you drive on the beach if you want to go that way.

The X did great, although I did not let any air out of my tires because it's mostly hard pack sand, a lot of people were deflating theirs in their Exploders and Tahoes. BTW, the Tahoe is the most popular vehicle down on the Outer Banks, but I did see another guy driving through the sand in his X5.

It's a wild horse sanctuary, and these guys were just chillin, not paying the humans any mind at all.

I saw this X5 at a shopping center in Corolla, near where we were staying. My ride is in the background.

I don't decry the body kit, cause it looks real good, but I'll never agree with slapping that M badge on an X5.

Had to stop off and get the Outer Banks fudge for everyone back home as gifts, and here's the X in front of Jockey's Ridge, the largest sand dune on the east coast, and the area where Wilbur and Orville did much of their early experimental flight attempts.

Finally back on the mainland, and here's one of those sights you see off of Highway 158 that reminds you that you ain't in the big city no more.

He did have it all painted. I think his running board were part of the body kit though. I attached another photo of that X.

I was never on a road called 13 coming from my starting point just south of DC, but highway 12 is the one that runs from north of Corolla down to Hatteras and Ocracoke and I did spend a lot of time on that road, and I let every hottie in a bikini cross in front of me too!

Nice pics, and welcome back! I'm actually not wild about the X5's aero kit. I think the front bumper looks nice, but I don't like the sides and the back. If I was buying something like that, I'd retrofit a 4.8/4.8 kit. I love the OBX.. I haven't been there in a few years, though.

Nice pics!! Agree with the "M" badge on a non-M car.....

Though, it is a homage to the M3, M5, M6, M1, 850CSi, etc.

Well, remember the people who bought the X5 4.6iS and they were getting letters from BMW NA thanking them on the purchase of their X5 M....

I spent a week near Kittihawk last September with my father-in-law (naturaized US citizen) in a friends house overlooking the 18th hole of the Nags Head golf course, and what a great place to stay!

We had hired the biggest 4 x 4 we could and seemed to drive for miles over the week but we didn't want to stray onto the beach as we weren't sure if you could?

Great holiday (even with the soft crabs...)!
