2 wireless bridges as suggested by TQ2K is a good approach to avoid interference with other wireless. However, as a cheap solution you may want to give a try to the Belkin Pre-N Wireless router. I bought one this summer and used it for 10 days and was amazed by its range. I tested it at 400ft from my 802.11 G laptop card and still got a pretty good signal. It gave a much better range than any other wireless router I have tested to date including the latest Linksys and Netgear. The only reason I brought it back and replaced it with the Belkin N1 router was because VOIP did not work well on the Pre-N. They may have fixed this problem since though.

I use a Hawking Technologies HWREG1. It's one of the few ones I found that will work with virtually ANY WiFi network, regardless of the manufacturer.

Thanks guys! I passed this info along to my friend who greatly appreciates the help (as do I).

Now the 64 million dollar question....once he has the two bridges setup, one at his house, one at his buddys house, how does he convert his buddys bridge back to a hard-wired setup? I saw that most companies make one of those game adapters that you can hook a console/laptop/whatever into, but can you plug a router into it and have the router act as a DHCP server?

He'll simply need to connect a hub or router to it which then connects to the computers...

wireless

i install setups like these all the time. i have had really good luck with bufalo tech equitment. it is compariable to linksys but a little nicer. the prices are around the same. the cool thing is, the buffalo's have access points with built in switchs. they also can have external directional antanas attached to them. what i usually do is run the access pint in the house and then run the antena on the roof and link up with the remote access point. the two access point can be switched on the fly from point to point and access points. this way the only communication from the access point will be with the other access point. then all you buddy has to do is plug his machine directly into the access point at the other end.

the set up is pretty easy.
