If we leave, the violence will subside.

Back in the early 70s, the pro-war crowd also used the excuse "if we leave Veitnam there will be chaos and civil war". Yet once we left, within a few months there was peace, and in the next round of elections the population of the South got to participate in the democratic process.

This idea that there will be civil war is just being used to justify staying there longer. You have to realize that billions of dollars are being made every month by big business due to this war continuing. These are the same big businesses that give campaign contributions to your Senators and Congressmen.

In this case, the polls show that the majority of the Iraqi people want US troops to leave and the majority also think that attacks on US troops are justified.

Keep in mind that such an insurgency could not survive without support from the population. If the Iraqi population was to turn on the insurgency, they would all be rounded up and imprisoned in no time. The problem we face is that the locals help the insurgency.

Hey the retraction is already in place as we are beginning to pull out the violence keeps increasing...not the most promising for your theory mate

Frankly I just don't care anymore, these peoples have been fighting for thousands of years only difference is we are caught in the middle of it...personally I think the country should be broken down into the three religous regions and made into three countries it would be the best choice to preserve life but in a society where the life of hundreds of people mean nothing to the insurgancy I guess we just let them blow themselves up and take the oil later

I agree except for the oil part.

With regard to oil we should take a quarter of the money we are wasting on the war and find altertive fuel.

Our need for oil has inderectly funded the teriost groups. The best thing to happen is that the demand and price for oil drps.

It wasn't long ago (several decades?) that the same could be said for Europe.

Or better yet, care to guess which country has been involved in the most wars (or "military actions") in the past 100 years?

I agree, but there are many powerful people who are not about to allow that to happen, and unfortunately they have huge influence over most of your elected officials.

Do yourself a favor and see the documentary film "Who Killed the Electric Car?".

hence the word RETRACTION and maybe my thought of dividing the country is a typical american mentality but I would rather try to help others...granted our country did not go about it the proper way but your county did nothing and frankly when it comes to inaction Canada takes the cake cheers for not contributing.
As for alternative fuel it's here kids...sugar beet derived methanol will run any vehicle that can burn gasoline (as opposed to corn based ethanol alternaitives which require special fuel pumps and hoses to run E-85) Brazil is claiming oil independence this coming year due to sugar beet and biomass derived fuels for internal combustion engines

xxx, you shouldn't armchair quarterback when your team isn't even on the field.
