-Got the family coming in from the east coast for the ceremony and a weekend full of parties.
- The bad news is, as of Thursday, for the first time in over 10 years, I am offically unemployeed. lol !!!

- just thought I would share the good news with all of you..

Best,

- oh, and although it seems as though I am a little bit old to be going to school, I am actually the average age at 31. AFI is a professional training school that requires a minimum of 3 years experience in the field. That is why they call us Fellows and not students and it is called a conservatory not a school..

film school

Seth-Congrats!! My son received his BA in film studies several years ago and I begged him to go to graduate school and of course he declined. He made a documentary on Japanese anime fans and their conventions travelling around the country. He received excellent reviews and is finalizing a distribution deal whereby he will still be poor but his work will be in Blockbuster. I told him that the dedication to his film should have been to dad's Amex card but he declined that suggestion also. Best of luck on the festival circuit.

Congrats Seth!

I really want to go back for my MFA at some point (some of my video profs have been pushing me to do it). Maybe at some point I will take the plunge!

Thanks for the wishes everyone..
On top of graduation tomorrow and my parents arrival in town today, I am planning a celebration party at my house on Friday for all the grads and their families and friends. I'm expecting over 300 people !!

CJ.. If you love movies, as you said you do, don't rule out a career in film and television. Just realize that you would have to move out to LA and pay dues. I will say this though. The film business is heart wrenching, ridicilous amounts of work, can be very lucrative but often is not, there are much easier ways to make money.. But when I was around your age, the idea of becoming a director came upon me like a ton of bricks. It is not something I would wish on anyone, unless of course they woke up every morning and went to sleep every night knowing that is what you want to do. Having said all that. I love it. And going into the business is not what you do.. It is who you are. I say that because it takes over.. It is a daily war. It is having the responsibility of making the impossible, possible on a daily basis.

Hayaku.. Sure.... Anytime you want to chat ideas

MD, I will be sure to keep you posted on the funny's of the Hollywood film biz.. Assuming of course I will be fortunate enough to get a chance to work in it. I'd love to see some of those old films of yours one day !!

Dr.Fred, I wish your son a ton of luck and cheers to you for helping him. It's a tough business we've chosen and couldn't do it without the support of our families and friends. It is not too late for him to go to grad school to learn narative filmmaking and I couldn't give enough props to AFI.. They really teach you how to make professional movies with great stories.. If you want to put him in touch with me, it would be my pleasure to talk to him about it. Without the contacts, support, education, etc. of a school like AFI behind me, I have no doubt it would be a million times harder for me to acclompish my goal.. The understanding of production and story one gets from a program such as this can not be overlooked. It's like wanting to be a architect and not going to school for it. Of course people do break through at times, but film school is the way to go.

Gorija-san, What do you want to go back to school for? If you can, I say do it. But I warn you, it's not like undergrad. I actually busted my A$$ in grad school 100% more so than I ever did in school or the professional world. But I guess that also depends on the type of school.

To everyone else... Supergreg, Silent, verbalkint, Ucrew... Thanks again for your support. It means a lot to me..

NCX.... Congrats to you as well....

Seth -- making a b-line to get my diploma

It's something I've considered.. Of course, you need talent.. I probably dont have any. Anyway, moving to LA would be fun!

I agree, but some people do have a natural gift for acting, directing, etc., which helps a lot.
