Question 2 hard drive system: most efficient usage?

does anybody remember that general rule of thumb regarding how best to install the OS, virtual memory page file, applications, and data on a 2-drive system? i THINK it was something like:

DRIVE C: OS; virtual memory page file

DRIVE D: apps; data

agreed?

Or how about this:

Partition Drive C into 2 drives, so now I'd do this:

Drive C: OS, virtual memory page file
Drive D: apps

Drive E (physically separate drive): data

Just gotta be careful how Windows locks you out of some of those folders if you ever put the drive into another PC.

Gotcha,

Not looking at a RAID system are you for better (slightly) performance and file security??

All I gotta say is you're missing the boat if you're not using a VM.

how big are the drives? internal or external?

not knowing those answers, I would blindly say go with option 2.

And windows doesn't lock you out of non-bootable drives.

what is VM?

the drives are both internal SATA/150 hd's:

DRIVE C: 300 GB
DRIVE D: 500 GB

so i'm thinking (now) of doing this:

split C into 50GB and 250GB partitions; the 50 for Vista (the OS and virtual memory pagefile) and the 250 for apps

use D only for data

VM is "virtual machine"... it lets you "carve" your PC into multiple virtual PC's, but I wouldn't do it unless you have a duo core machine and 4GB of RAM. Google VMWare.... gee... i wonder if the company that josh works for owns a VM company? hmmmmmmmmmmm....
