Had my snow tires put on Saturday morning and took a little used road home. There was about 5" of unplowed snow but unfortunately I couldn't really get it to break loose. ABS wouldn't even kick in when braking. Guess that's a good thing, but I miss putting the GC in two wheel drive and fishtailing down the road.

I tried the X3 the morning after the East Coast's only big snowstorm in the beginning of Feb last year (when the DC area got 14-18" of snow). With DSC off, the X3 with all-season tires plowed right through that foot of snow in my neighborhood with no trouble, and neighbors were staring at me like

Turning in snow is a totally different story though. Shows how AWD will get you moving, but the tires will let you down and the X will still show its rear-drive roots.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
My view is that I try to stay home when it snows.

Yes the X5 does well in snow, but to many other jerks around to be safe.
