I caught a bit of Bill Gates on the John Stewart show tonight. He's actually got a sense of humor.

I've got Vista on order as a free upgrade for a notebook I bought my wife 3 months ago. I'm sure there's a huge backlog so I don't expect to see it for a while.

Fortune magazine had a good write up on Vista. Seems the best edition was Vista Ultimate which added a lot of "Apple" like feels, such as cascading windows instead of icons and image thumbnails for WORD or EXCEL docs instead of simply a letter.

They did recommend you wait a year on purchase though.

Sorry to hijack the thread but if you think Vista is a memory hog wait till you try the new Office 2007. MS Office 2007 sucks memory like there is no tomorrow and slows even the Dell XPS down. I have been testing Office for a few weeks and I do not know what Microsoft is thinking. It looks beautiful and all but you cannot expect 80% of the desktop users to upgrade to run Vista and then Office 2007.

Wow. Now I see why every review I've read suggests having double the "recommended" memory in your system.

When can we get some programmers who want to show off their skillz, and write programs that are as tight and small as possible? Bloatware

Yes they can and they will. Many will have to buy new graphic cards and expanded memory.

....My new apartment was flooded out last Friday night...next Monday (the 22nd)...I found an HP Pavilion notebook at a local Staples....fortunate for me, I landed the newbie sales kid...while perusing the sparse collection of notebooks running XP, (they had stopped shipping due to Vista's impending release....)....said Newbie comes out from the back with the laptop I'm using to write this....with a big red sticker that says...."do not sell before 1/30/07..."....that his hand is covering.......he put the box down, got distracted momentarily, and never saw the sticker...opened it up, turned it on...Vista Home Premium Edition.....sold. Walked out with a sweet wireless ride for about $900.....love the new operating system...clean...neat.....so far, perfect...........so I'm on day 8 with it....
