You can never be too idealistic (I've found anyhow). The more motivated you are to make change, the more likely change is to come. Unfortunately, once you begin teaching, you will realize that there is so much more to the profession than classroom instruction; pressures come from every direction, begging you to lose your focus...administration, parents, meetings, meetings, meetings...BUT, if you maintain your love for students and that idealistic attitude, you can't lose, and will forever earn your title of Teacher. To some of us, that means something.
