Tim Hardaway won't represent NBA at All-Star Game after anti-gay remarks
Here's what he said.
"You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people," he said. "I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States." "First of all, I wouldn't want him on my team," the former Miami Heat star said. "And second of all, if he was on my team, I would, you know, really distance myself from him because, uh, I don't think that is right. I don't think he should be in the locker room while we are in the locker room." Hardaway also said if he did find out that a teammate was gay, he would ask for the player to be removed from the team. I have yet to understand why people get lambasted for stating that they oppose a certain "view". America is WIDELY divided over homosexual behavior so why is it such a shock that a basketball player has some issues? He didn't say "I'd kill the gay guy", he said he would distance himself. The NBA getting involved is just another instance of a corporation dictating what type of personal life, and personal thoughts a person can have IMO.
One of the best lines I've ever heard goes something like this, in regards to America: "..the only way you can claim America is free is when you can stand up and claim your beliefs AND sit down while another claims those that vehemently oppose you..." As for the NBA's positions, they are still trying to clean up their rep and this is just another blemish in their eyes.

 With this in principal. What happens is when people say this kind of stuff it often sound like their spouting off. Perhaps he should have express that he does not agree or support that kind of behavior and would prefer not associating with those who practice it. That would be his right to do so and to say so. It is his opinion though, so what is basically being said is he can't express his opinion if society thinks it is out of the norm. Again, he didn't say "I would beat, kill, mutilate....etc" he simply said he *hate's* someone. I hate a lot of people

I can see where he is coming from, it's his opinion and he is intitled to it. If I were on a sports team and there was a openly gay person on it I would also distance myself from him, I think it would be quite uncomfortable to be in a shower or locker room and feel like you are being looked at in a sexual manner. Again just my opinion...
