I love my p990i, but I have to return it.

Hey all,

Wow, what a great phone. Unfortunately it does not seem to want to work with my MAC.
I bought it through dynamism. I love the keyboard, it's sooo easy to type text messages. But when I called for tech support to find out how I can sync it to my MAC, I was told there is no software.
The missing sync does not work either.

So after a week of phone love.. I have to go back to the pearl

Anyone know if there are plans for an X5 cradle for the pearl?

What about the new 8800. You wanted Cingular right? Research In Motion and Information Appliance Associates today announced a licensing agreement whereby RIM will offer ‘PocketMac® for BlackBerry®’ to Mac users, free of charge. PocketMac for BlackBerry is a desktop application that enables Mac users to synchronize data between their BlackBerry devices and Macintosh applications including core OS X version 10.4 “Tiger” applications and Microsoft Entourage. OBTW check this out http://www.rimarkable.com/archives/462

“The worldwide popularity of Mac OS X is driving the creation of many exciting new products and significant growth in the Apple development community,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We're thrilled that IAA and RIM have collaborated to better support mobile Mac users with easy-to-use BlackBerry synchronization.” http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices...d=H0,C201,P403

Sorry to hear that. I have a P990i myself but I am not in phone heaven. This damn thing seems to have a mind of its own. It turns itself off "to improve performance" + certain apps and the camera just wont work. Gonna bring it back and try a new one to see if it's just that one in particular. Experiencing any of this B-Line?

Anyhow, I did a little research for you. Seems like there is a way to transfer your to-do's and your calendar using software called iCal. And you can update your phone book using Vcards.

Some links: http://macncell.com/index_html/archi...p990i-and-m600 ---> iCAL

http://blogs.sun.com/martin/entry/p9...nd_for_address ---> Address book

http://magnus.nordlander.tk/technolo...e-mode-enabler ---> A fix for file transfers

And a post from www.vowe.net:
I somehow agree to all of the above comments but i would say its not that horrible as it is portrayed (Maybe because I own one).
To Robert nobelman: I use Mac and you are right that it does not sync with the P990i at all but there is a solution for it. There is website called https://zyb.com/ that offers a free online backup to your phone book and calendar. You can also share and import your data through it. It runs perfectly on the Mac.

Looks like you have several options, but is it really worth the headache of figuring it all out? That, my friend, is up to you.

GL.

Hey Debator,

I just went out and got the Blackberry 8800 which is essentially a pearl with full qwerty keyboard (thanks Barry !)...

Upon the immediate transfer of the sim card from P990i to Blackberry, the voice reception was better and more consistent. And it wasn't a small difference, it was a big one...

I guess I just wanted the p990i to work so badly that I didn't recognize the poor phone quality. I really do love the design of the 990i with the numpad flip and QWERTY keyboard. I wish blackberry would do that also.. Also, the Iphone, I wish they would all a small flip that just has a numpad, send and end button. But that doesn't look like a forseeable..

So back to the shop with the 990i.... but I am pretty happy with the 8800 so far.

I wasn't too happy with the call quality either and in almost every forum catering to the SE symbian phones ppl are doing some major bit**ing about the P990i. I think I'll just bring it back and pick up a Nokia N95.

Did you say touch screen with a numpad??? Would you like a QWERTY slider with that? Check this out Samsung F700: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphone...ier-235112.php

Barry,

I have a 2004 X5 and never bothered to install the bluetooth phone module.
It didn't come standard till 2005.
-- Sorry I can't help there.
