....Damn, sometimes I'll toss a box of ammo into the campfirejust for effect, but my orig post was intended as a paste of a funny, thoughtful joke by Leno. I don't watch him or any late night show stuff; the NYTimes simply runs a lil' column of collected funny quips in the Sunday Op-Ed section. Some good arm wrestling here, but my intent was to pass on a good joke/comment. As Wagner/BigR said 3 pages ago: "melting pot". That's what the US is and we should be generally glad it is. |

Also with #1 #2 Yep i got the orig post. .......and as you know when a joke is suppose to be as MD said, funny and thoughtful it has a measure of truth to it. I just thought it was interesting that the Chronicle article touched on that measure of truth with an interesting twist. Quote:

I read it quite differently than most of you. I thought Sharpton was saying that color had nothing to do with it and that people should vote for the candidate based on policy and not based on color. "Just because you are our color doesn't make you our kind", where "our kind" means liberal and not moderate. Obama is seen more as a moderate. I don't think anything he was saying had anything to do with slavery.
Sharpton has shown plenty of times in the past that policy is more important to him than race. The most recent example of this that comes to mind is when he supported Andrew Cuomo in the 2002 election for New York State Governor instead of Carl McCall (who is black).
