That or they may slowly retract from the catagory...thier prices are still competitive with the market regardless of the warrenty

I don't have an issue with Costco's policy change. As AzX5 mentioned, all TV mfg warranties are extended to 2 years, but that policy is also extended to all computers. Obviously their prior liberal return policies had to be money losing situation especially on big ticket items like electronics. As it was explained to me once by a store manager, Costco would take anything back so long as the item was in their stock inventory within the past 2 years. I assume this still applies on everything except for electronics.

Last week while going through the Costco return line, I noticed a woman standing in the return line carrying a tray of raw steaks that was opened. Why someone can return raw meat to Costco is beyond me. I've never seen anything spoiled in Costco's meat section.

You would be amazed by how often this happens even at regular grocery stores...my parent's neighbor is the president of a regional grocery store chain he stated that this is a VERY common problem that takes a noticable bite into profits which they are trying to find a solution for...I guess people just claim the product was bad when they purchased it...It amazes me that people feel this is ok...no matter what the product it is technically fraud I am glad Costco is doing something to curb the issue...

I don't buy electronics from discounters anyway so this doesn't really affect me. It is good for the manufacturers though because they don't end up with returned goods they have to eat or sell as refurb/b stock which reduces thier cost of operation thus reducing cost of goods

you won't believe this but I guarantee that it's true....

A buddy if mine in Newport CA bought a huge bottle of vodka at Costco to bring to a party. He put it in his trunk and off he went. When he got to the party and opened the trunk he found the bottle empty, the cap had come loose and he had vodka all over his trunk.

Get this... he took the bottle back to Costco and returned it. He brought the manager out to his car and had him smell the trunk and claimed that the bottle must have been opened when he bought it becuase if it weren't there was no way that the cap comes loose.

The manager said that that was the most unique return he's ever dealt with and gave my buddy his $$$ back.

Personally, I wouldn't have done it, but for sheer entertainment value he did, and got a great story out of it! LOL!

Yeah, been an AMEX member since 90'. Had a Platinum card for a while then that went up to $350 a year or some BS like that. So I downgraded to Gold, then that one went up. All I have now is an AMEX Blue, and a Citibank MC with 5% back on gas and groceries which are my biggest expenses.

Me either, that's why I like to buy meat at Costco ... their business is so good, most of the products you see (especially ones that require refrigeration) are fresh ... maybe they need to add a disclaimer, "Do not leave raw meat in car for over 2 hours baking in the sun, and expect it to still be fresh when you want to cook/eat it" ....

Strangest Costco returns I have heard of:

A supervisor in my office was in the return line when an elderly man wanted to return one of those Costco roasted chickens. His complaint was that the chicken did not have enough white meat on it. The chicken he was returning was nothing more than a carcass of bones. He had eaten the whole thing and now wanted his $5 back.

A clerk at Costco told me that a guy wanted to return his used underwear because the elastic waistband had stretched out. Fortunately he was not wearing them at the time.

Okay, so someone mentioned that there is a grandfather clause. I bought my Mitsubishi TV about a month ago. Since I bought it before the policy took effect does that mean my return period is NOT limited to 90 days? Also, the 2 year warranty extension: Does that mean that within the next 2 years I can return the TV if something is wrong with it but I can't just walk in and say "I don't want it anymore"? That sounds like a matter of how you phrase your reason for the return.

I've always read that people used the return policy the most on Plasma and LCD TV's.
