The Subway is easy. No worries there.

You will be able to get tickets on the day of at the TKTS booth in Times Square, but you might not be able to get them for the specific show you want. Keep that in mind if there is a specific show your daughter has to see.

The Sheratons on 7th Avenue are are good thought as well. Closer to the Carnegie Deli and the best cheesecake in the world!

There is so much to do and see, it really depends on what y'all want to see and how much time you have.
