WOW!!! I got laid off today
After a 12 year career at Merrill Lynch, it's all over. Senior Management, in their infinite wisdom, decided that financial planning doesn't have a valid business case at the firm because it does not generate the necessary revenue to justify its existence. So me and 5 of my colleagues (average of over 10 years of service each) were let go today. At least a) I have a decent severance package and b) I have a few irons in the fire - so to speak - for other opportunities. My last day is Friday, so I'll just be hanging out for the next couple of days. We're still going to Florida on Saturday (which reminds me I need to post some pictures with the X loaded with kiddie stuff as proof the machine really is practical!!) and we'll be enjoying EVERY minute of the trip. Thanks for letting me post this here, and wish me luck.

I'm really sorry to hear about your job situation. I've been in your shoes and it's very frustrating and can be somewhat scary. However, I think in the end you'll be better off without 'em. Such a shame that those guys can cut the string with just a snap of the fingers, especially after being there such a long time.
In this type of a situation does the company offer you any help in finding another position internally or outside the company? |

good luck. i was laid off from robbie stephens back in the day, too. so i know where you're coming from. stay positive, start looking, and remember, it was a business decision to let you go, not a personal one.
i had a tough time understanding that for the longest time, but bottom line, it's P&Ls.... good luck.

Sorry to hear about the job situation. But it sounds like you're ready to party. Have a blast in FL and good luck with the new prospects.

sorry to hear but it's often better that way... forces you to review your skillsets... maybe I was lucky but I went from a large money manager to a consulting company to a large data storage company.. complete 180 each time but 40K payraise from EACH jump...
stay positive and start networking... best way to get in the door. Quote:
