Seven or eight years ago I used to tell people "just wait, soon they'll shrink phones down enough that you can just plug it into your ear and walk around with it." Every one just laughed.
Well, that's basically what happened. Now I see people walking around the store with a freakin' headset stuck in their ear. I think some people stick it in when they get out of bed in the morning, and don't take it out till they go to sleep.

Unless you are talking on the damn thing, take it out of your ear, you look like an IDIOT!

I don't have one, but they don't bother me. I don't talk on my cell often, but if I did, I would get the BT headset. Just makes since to me... Why hold it to your ear if you don't need to? Why not keep it on your ear all the time for when a call comes in (better than having to put it on at the last minute).

I don't think most people (who use them) do it because they think it's cool, I think they do it because it's convenient. When pagers first came out I think people thought it was cool to wear on your belt - same thing with cell phones when they first came out. Now I think cell phones are just practical and so is the BT.

LOL! As gay as BTH is, the image of someone holding the early Blackberry (aka: frisbee, slice of bread, or purple calculator) up to there ear is like reminiscing about the old "brick" cell phone.

Power to all the a$$ hats with their tech toys cause it keeps me snickering.

For some business person, Maybe. But for most folks, they don't get enough calls to warrent walking around with some gadget in their ear talking all loud telling everyone their business. I think your right about one thing. Cell phones have become common place. Bad manners and disrespect for others while using them is common place as well.

I don't think that people necessarily wear them to look important. As someone stated, it ain't like the old days when a cellphone cost $6000 and it meant you were a big deal. Even little kids have cellphones now. That's another story altogether. I've had a few different BT headsets and if I keep it in my ear while not on the phone, it's because it is the most convenient place to keep it. You always know where it is and putting the headset in your pocket can lead to accidentally pushing the talk or other buttons and it can be difficult to fish the thing out of your pocket when you need it. I've nearly lost my Plantronics Discovery 640 so many times because I prefer to take it out of my ear when not in use. Because of that and because I don't like to have it in my ear when not talking, I don't use it much anymore with my Moto A1200 Ming. I probably should use one with my Blackberry 7520 though because it is like holding a desktop calculator to my head. I hate it.



Whether someone talks on a BT headset while in line or in any other public place is no different than yapping on a cellphone held to your head. Cellphone etiquette and common courtesy applies to both modes. Either way it can be obnoxious. If you're sitting next to some a-hole at the airport while he yammers on about how bitchin' he is, it isn't going to be any less annoying if he's got the phone in his hand. Having said that though, it can be extra annoying with a BT headset because many people feel the need to to yell, thinking that since the mic is far from their mouths yelling is necessary.

Screw it all! I'm going back to the original hands-free method.

OH I don't know about that. I think some of them do. After all we live in a culture of what and who's cool.

Exactly what I'm talkin bout.. Listen:... 2 times in the movies last week i had to tell prople to brake it off with the cell phones. 2 other times i had to ask people around me to take their conversation some place else. Seems like people think i want to listen to their yak.

Barry- please come to the movies with me next time! I have taken pains to avoid certain movie theaters where the cell phone use is blatant during the film. There's no reasong with the mooks who do it as a habit either.
