I just gassed up with premium today, and the price was $4.95/gallon CAD (which converts to about $4.42 USD). In Europe the prices are about double that. How would you like to be paying around $8 to $9 per gallon like most other countries? Consider yourselves blessed to have such low prices.

It's all taxes and while it sucks for you, knowing that it's so much more expensive in Canada or Europe doesn't make me feel better. My point is that from state to state there can be huge differences in prices. California is always fed the line that it's due to the additives mandated by CARB and most recently the explanation has been "refinery issues". I find that very hard to believe when one gas station on the border of CA and one on the border of AZ, which are right next to each other, can have such a big price discrepancy. It's all oil company BS. I would say that Petro Canada, et al are up to the same shenanigans to boost revenue.

LOL...Yeah Right $2.19 a gallon. It's been a decade since gas prices were that low in California. We pay at least a dollar more a gallon for regular and around $3.50 for premium.

We're practically on par with Europe.

I think I am going to ride my motorcycle a lot this summer. 45 to 54 mpg average (depending on how I ride) is much much better than the 17mpg average I get with my X.

Agreed. In France for example the price of gas is more than twice as in the USA (a lot of taxes on many things over there) and that sucks big time but on the other hand every time you go to the doctor you only pay $25 (which you get reimbursed afterward by the way) and university is basically free for any kid smart enough and motivated enough. There are pros and cons with each taxes/benefits systems and it is up to each civilized country to chose what suits their citizen the best.

Hmmm, maybe if I make my dad drive the Civic as a commute car, and my mom drives the X3 as the occasional grocery getter, perhaps we could save money. Maybe I'll suggest that if prices shoot to $5 a gallon.

"You pay more you get more" If this were true California would have the best roads in the USA seeing our gas prices are at least $1 more a gallon and we use more gas each day than most other states.

Truth is...Governments are very inefficient when it comes to spending your hard earned dollars.

A Bureaucracy burns more cash than a Hummer burns gas.

Oil is big business in the US. Take a look at the recently released Fortune 500 companies in the US:

When I drove to Arizona a few weeks ago, driving 7 miles from the last CA gas station to the next AZ gas station resulted in something like a $0.30/gallon price difference. I don't remember exactly but it was significant.

Premium ranges from $2.89-$2.99 here right now.

Gas prices will continue to fluctuate. I ddin't hear anyone complaning when it was @ $1 less per gallon earlier this year?

I have a some solutions that most people don't want to hear..buy a fuel efficient vehicle, carpool, take public transport, or (gasp) drive less....
