Our murder rate per capita is so much higher than than almost any European or Asian country. The only countries with higher murder rates than ours are some 3rd world countries that are either in middle of civil war (like Columbia & Iraq) or are havens for organized crime.

Here are the Interpol 1995 crime statistics (rate per 100,000):

5278 - US
8179 - Germany
6316 - France
7206 - England & Wales

Here are Interpol 2001 crime statistics (rate per 100,000):

4161 - US
7736 - Germany
6941 - France
9927 - England and Wales

Notice that crime in the US is going down while crime rates in most of Europe is going up.

Now this next part will make your PC head spin.

Homicide Offender Rate/100,000 by Race in US (2000):

3.4 - White
25.8 - Black
3.2 - Other

You might have noticed a certain number standing out in that statistic. You might also try to explain that the black numbers are over represented due to racism, police or the justice system.

If that were indeed true you would expect the distribution of race to be more in line if not higher for whites who make up more of the population.

Homicide Victim Rate/100,000 by Race in US (2000):

3.3 - White
20.5 - Black
2.7 - Other

From this we can conclude that our murder rate is artificially high due to inner city black on black crime. When you remove the black on black crime numbers you get a more representative murder statistic for America.

Remove homicides committed by blacks in 2000
Total number in the year 2000: 21862
Total number of murders committed by Blacks:9316

What we are now left with is a US homicide offender rate of only 2.6/100,000 which is lower than Germany (3.27) and France (3.91).

So your hypothesis that America's gun toting Conservatives are responsible for creating a culture of death due to guns and easy access to guns you would be wrong.
