A new skill for my resume..
Had a great weekend. My bro and I went to stunt driving school at Camarillo apt. (about an hour outside Los Angeles) with www.bobbyoremotorsports.com. It was an amazing and rough two days where we learned to: shuffle steer, forward 180's, reverse 180's and box park. There were six of us in the class and we were driving Ford Escort ZX2, two door vehicles. My arm is blasted today from all the E-Brake yanking and banking. I have to say, it is absouletely amazing to see what Bobby Ore and his crew are able to do with cars. It's scary how precise and the speeds they are able to execute the craziest vehicle manuevers you have ever seen, with relative ease. We even got to play a bit. Yesterday morning, one of the instructors showed up in a Dodge Viper, I was in Mr. Animal (911 Turbo) and we did some 1/4 mile racing on the runway. We did 4 runs. The Viper won 2 and I won 2. My bro and I both passed the final test which consisted of a slalomn into a forward 180, into a second forward 180, into a box park, into a reverse 180, into a second box park. So who wants to let me borrow their car for an afternoon? ![]() -B

Interesting you say that. I am sort of anxious to try the shuffle steering method on the track and see how it works for me. I can understand that "non-shuffle" (9 and 3) steering instructors might slap you in the helmet for driving that way, but that doesn't make them correct. I understand Bobby's method for steering and the 9 and 3 guys. It's two differnet ways to skin the same cat. I think they probably both work, equally. I can certainley agree with Bobby that crossing over wrists can be very, very clumsy. But I can also understand the 9&3 method for certain situations. Right now, I'm enjoying the learning of shuffle steering so I'm going to dial it in, until it's second nature. Then if I want to switch between the two methods, I have both skills in my tool belt. And, I think the price was $1800 for two days.. It went up a couple bucks I guess. It's also taught at Sebring in Florida. B

I know what 9 and 3 is but what do you mean by shuffle, feed the wheel through your hands as opposed to turning hand over hand?

traditional way of shuffle is cross over of hands. in the race cars i've used, the steering wheel is locked at just 20 degrees of steering, thats about 1.25 revolutions of the steering wheel, so shuffling isn't really neccessary. in my car, if i have to cross hands to correct a slide, i'm beyond saving it...
