I'm sorry but that car didn't seem to hold up that well in a side impact crash and the roof caved a bit to much for me to like

Ryan, I have seen the same thing that has happened with the X5 with rollover crashes (just do a search & you'll see the same thing with the X5). You want the car to give a little to absorb the energy. As a testament for that M3 owner, he is still alive and walked away.

In fact, I was invovled in a roll-over accident in an E30 3-series about 20 years ago and I am still here!

1) Probably an irresponsible driver. Won't say more.

2) I'm disturbed by how the passenger door caved in to that extent. BMWs have that "hook" between the door and the door frame that is supposed to prevent the door from being pushed like that into the passenger cabin. Must have been going hella fast for physics to overcome BMW's rigid design (and this applies to much of the damage, not just that door).

If there had been a passenger in that car, he/she'd be dead.

wow, amazing that he made it out ok! I had a relative who was involved in a Ford Explorer rollover, and the damage looks about the same. She walked away. I always buy the safest vehicle possible.
(BTW the pre-2004 X5 failed the gov't rollover test...)
